there are some really good cosplayers out there but the reason people dont think that good is because they are ugly or fat, that sucks just because of how you look they dont think your a good cosplayer

i totally agree. If cosplay is just for Japanese, I'm not gonna be in this forum :D...Anyway, there are many events in Japan that people can hang out and cosplay. I'm jealous of that because people look at me as a psycho if I cosplay and walk around in California street...ha ha...

i do have to admit however, that since anime and cosplay originates from Japan, the majority of their people do a better job of representing a part of their culture. and they tend to look waaayyy better than alot of te American cosplayers that i have seen esp. since half the population here is practically obese and the costumes made here look like crap unless they sew and handcraft things themselves since resources on all awesome japanese things are severely limited ¬_¬
and even if i do see some good American ones, it's not always authentic unless there is someone who plays the role of an anime character that's American.. plus, anime characters look more like japanese ppl anyway.. but that shouldn't discourage ppl who aren't japanese (me) from cosplaying. but yes, it also depends on what you mean by only te japanese looking good in cos. there are good looking ppl of different ethnicities that match different roles. so it all depends on what character you pick that is best suited for you. like some obese chick chowing on french fries in a chi costume (someone recorded this at a convention) , you've got a blind, undignified, shameful person right there.

I still have to see some good american ones. I know thier are some and I've seen lots of them. Oh wait, looks like I have seen some.... my bad. The japanese are too close since they got the stuff but the fabrics look the same most of the time....

I agree with raincube. Cosplay isn't only for Japanese people and it's not that only Japanese people look good in cosplay. Lots of other people from different ethnicities cosplay very well. It's just that, it seems a lot of Japanese people just tend to be good cosplayers. Anime did originate in Japan so it's not surprising that that is the case. You just have to pick a character that suits your body shape and your facial features. Like, if you have a slightly big body, you shouldn't cosplay a character who is very skinny. That doesn't work well.

Of course, I've seen some amazing copslay from the Philippines and China. Ever heard of Kamiyou and Arashi? They're Chinese cosplayers and are now cosplay idols in China. Their fame is reaching Japan and Korea now. There are some pictures of their cosplay in the photo gallery here. And just because I want to, I'll put up their Kokuyo gang cosplay >=)
