Okay so maybe this might sound stupid but lately i've noticed a trend here in America. Maybe it is just a skewed perception, but I see so many people making money off a scam, or their "life story" and a really lame business that isn't meant to actually help anyone. This is of course an opinion...you cannot tell whether a person is being honest or not. But it is as if people see someone or something and just 'like' it without even considering its existence or morality.

Like the four year olds who are boys and want to be girls or etc. Looking at the parents, it seems as if that was sort of a 'pushed' thing. When you are little...everyone wants to be special, or chosen. Once realizing the attention one gains from this..they will continue. But you never hear about the story of the child who said he wanted to be X when really he was Y and ended up living a life that wasn't his own? Or someone who received sex change surgery and forever hates themselves because they feel an imposter in their own skin. These stories exist...with numbers that parallel with the headlines.

I am not sure what this says about us. I just feel like I see true talent, intelligence, and legitimate stories that i feel deserve attention! I don't know. Many people have a moment in their life where they question who they are. Some even try suicide...or seriously consider it. I believe we are making it seem like these feelings are rare...and when felt a person should act to the extreme! I do not agree with this mentality, but I don't speak up because...well who am I? I just don't understand why every single unique opinion needs the spotlight. The internet exists for voices sure....but...just because a person doesn't donate, doesn't have a specific racial gender mixture on the cover of vogue..I don't believe that equals acceptance. I am sure the handicapped man who cannot properly move his body wishes more than ever he could buy a cup of coffee without being noticed. Without a smile of sympathy or the sad gestures he receives on a daily basis. People would urge him to leave the house more often....but he doesn't because he knows nobody really 'cares' they just know that what they should suggest as a friend or family.

I probably got a bit off topic. And I might have offended someone but please just view this as a rambling thought out loud.

"some even try suicide...or seriously consider it."

I hope no one tries suicide just to feel special but i think thinking that way first and foremost without knowing the person is a pretty disgusting assumption to make

anyways, to answer the question, yes, this has been happening for a while and it happens in pretty much every country, i don't know if i agree with your examples though haha ... maybe don't use suicide or transgender topics as examples because that is pretty touchy on these forums, probably some of the worst examples I could think of tbh lol

I understand what you are saying. I think finding "true talent, intelligence, and legitimate stories" is extremely difficult so the media doesn't bother.

People sell their fake touchy-feely life stories because that is what sells. They think that is what people want and they think that is the best way to get attention. I would argue that the constant barrage of soap operas probably factors into why everyone acts so apathetic all the time. Have you noticed this trend? No one really cares about sob stories anymore because most of the emotion shoved down our throats is fake and we know it.

Meh.. It doesn't work forever. An emotional fatigue sets in, and the begging and the attention whoring will only result in boredom and annoyance.
