I've actually been anticipating the impending release of the sin Nanatsu no Taizai anime. However, I don't just blindly jump into an anime unless I know what its source material is since anime adaptations have had a running theme of falling flat on their butts.

CR is usually on point with specifying this information in every article they post on any given show- except for this one.

The various articles I've read say it's adaptation of something, but not exactly what that something is.

If anyone knows exactly what sin Nanatsu no Taizai is based off of, I'd appreciate it if they would tell me. I always take that information into consideration when I have an interest in something.

Apparently not even MAL knows what to call it. It looks like an original series based on some figures from a Japanese store if I'm not mistaken. It's probably as weird as it sounds...

Isn't it also called "Seven Deadly Sins" or am I confusing it with something else?

- Seven Deadly Sins
- http://nanatsu-no-taizai.wikia.com/wiki/Seven_Deadly_Sins

The Seven Deadly Sins「七つの大罪 Nanatsu no Taizai」 were the strongest and cruelest order of Holy Knights in the Kingdom of Liones. They were formed by seven brutal criminals, who had all been convicted for grievous crimes and had carved the symbols of seven beasts onto their bodies.[1] After having been framed for murdering the Great Holy Knight,[2] they were indefinitely disbanded,[3] as well as branded as traitors and villains. They are the main protagonists of the series.

I think they are talking about this:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_7_Deadly_Sins_(anime_series)

which is very, very similarly named, but appears to be quite different. The one you reference is a manga from which a popular anime series was already made and has aired. But this other one is some media project that will involve anime and manga and figurines, but is not the same as that one you reference. The wikipedia article doesn't say much about it either.

Here's the ANN article:

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2016-08-11/hobby-japan-the-7-deadly-sins-multimedia-project-gets-tv-anime/.105291

And here's their "encyclopedia" page. It's got links to more recent articles, but they mostly seem to be cast announcements.

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=18689

However, the latest article does include a summary (which is also on that encyclopedia page now):

The anime's website also revealed the show's story on Friday. In the story, the prideful archangel Lucifer disobeys God and is cast into the lowest level of hell as a fallen angel. On her way to hell, Lucifer happens to meet a high school girl on Earth named Maria, who helps her. In hell, Lucifer meets Leviathan, and Leviathan explains to Lucifer about The Seven Deadly Sins, the seven demon king rulers of hell. After The Seven Deadly Sins seal Lucifer's powers, Lucifer goes on a journey with Maria and Leviathan to defeat them.

As to the question posed by the OP, it seems like an original, without an existing story source. Also from that article:

Kinji Yoshimoto (Queen's Blade: The Exiled Virgin, Plastic Little) is directing the anime at TNK and Artland, and he is also credited for story concept, series composition, and color design.

Thanks for the input! I guess I wasn't the only one who was confused. I'm still not sure if I'm going to watch it though.

Watch CR not even get the licensing for it after all this...

If you like ecchi then yes. Judging from the concept art, you will see more jiggling breasts and panty shots. Idk about the plot. Beside Shokugeki and Bakemonogatari, I rarely see good story in ecchi anime though.
