There's a big contrast in opinion throughout the anime community on this topic. I'm curious as to how the results will be divided, and especially whether people think it's an issue or not.
If you are especially interested, please comment extra thoughts! Satire is much appreciated.

Second option, but the 3rd option is true because of the 2nd being true.

If it were a genuine story that tried to be something decent, it would be fine. Actually, would probably be a nice change of pace.

Meh. It's a genre I have absolutely no interest in but don't mind existing. Sure some of it's fans can get annoying but that's true of pretty much everything. There are some talented artists who work in the genre though and I certainly wouldn't mind them working on something I would personally enjoy but to each their own.

I'm a gay man who sometimes watches yaoi, and I voted for #2. At it's best, it's misrepresentation (I have news for you all: Gay men do not behave like that, and gay relationships do not work that way), Maybe misrepresentation is better than no representation at all (not really), but I really hope no one thinks that's how gay life is. When I watch yaoi, It's like I'm simultaneously wincing and laughing.

I'm a fujoshi so I guess 1. Although I won't say godsend. It's a genre that's enjoyable if you find the right shows/stories.

I do think 2 is right as well but isn't everything in fiction like that? I mean, even most straight relationships in fiction is very unrealistic and stupid that I'm so close to actively avoiding it due to stupidity (I'm looking mostly at the wattpad stories and teledramas in the country I'm living in. At best, they're a good source of laughs). Also, I think only people who can't differentiate reality from fiction (or those who don't know any better) would mistake yaoi for actual representation of real gay relationships. I mean, I've read a bunch of yaoi stories and only a few of them actually has their characters admit outright that they're gay or swing that way... most of the time, the whole sexuality thing don't even get addressed or just hand waved.

when it isn't shoved in my face its meh, of course if I don't enjoy the story/plot/whatever enough to entertain or interest me then I wont suffer through episodes. and that is regardless of any hetero/bl or whatever type relationship is on screen. anime is anime, you hate it or love it or you just don't watch that shit. stuff that is more moe-like with its sparkles and shininess is something I will not watch because it is just way out there in its cute enough to puke style.

I did have to show some bits to a couple gay men I know to see what they thought and that was hilarious in its own right.
"what is this fairy tail bullshit?" (yuri on ice) was probably my favorite comment hahaha. mind you these are 30something year old gay guys who act like a couple of old men at times (yes, I mean older then 30 something damn it!)

everybody has their opinions

It really depends on the series. I've seen yaoi that I enjoy, but I've also seen some horribly cringy ones. Besides, I didn't even want arms.

Au revoir, arms.

I've watched some Yaoi and enjoyed them, but mostly because they were entertaining shows in their own right, not just because they were Yaoi.
