So, you're a backpack kind of girl?

Very much so. It's pretty hard to snatch something that's attached to me across either shoulder, the weight isn't all concentrated on one side, there's more space to keep things in (allowing me to carry larger objects like computers or books), and they tend to be compact enough to store at work without issue. Handbags are show pieces as far as I'm concerned, and I tend to not have a particularly strong interest in being flashy.

I own a few backpacks but I'm more of a messenger bag person.

They're better, but they still have the weight distribution problem going on. Maybe I'm just carrying too much.

Don't try to fit the whole world in your backpack.

I use tote bags.

I often forget certain essentials *ahem* and fill it with food and books; because I am a child. I tend to bring dark chocolate coconut Ocho bars or chocolate Manitoba hemp heart bars, tea bags (rooibos, ginger or peppermint), a coffee mug, a container of chopped dates, pumpkin seeds, Polar ginger ale or seltzer, etc..

So if something is missing; it is probably at home and I am up the creek...

I've completely forgotten about tote bags. I like them too.

If I am going out to see bands or just to eat or something, I can get by without a bag and just use pockets; but I am a bit of a nerd so it's hard to not want to bring everything I am reading with me.

I too prefer backpacks and pants-pockets, and I also minimize the number of things I have to carry around with me by having necessities stationed at my various haunts.

I think the tiny drawstring backpacks are cute.

While I don't exactly meet the OP's criteria, I assure you that the words, "Can you please grab _____ out of my purse?" always fills me with dread.

For Pete's sake, it's like you're trying to cram half the contents of a medicine cabinet into a sandwich baggy. How is my primitive male brain supposed to find anything in there?

You'd practically need to write me directions, "Turn right at lipstick lane. If you come to sanitary napkins plaza you've gone too far. You're looking for the third left after the intersection of tissues and coin purse..."

I don't carry much, if I lost something in my bag it's most likely because I was being clumsy in the morning, running late, or was just not readily prepared

As a guy this does not applied to me. However; have been told to look through my mom purse to find certain items. I've dreaded those moments.
