If you want to see a reboot of a beloved classic done well, look to Dota's own Spirit Breaker. His story isn't really known beyond his space cow adventures, but we don't need it. Spirit Breaker's face says everything about his past and how much of a better decision he made by remaining as a space cow.

See, both Spirit Breaker and the Beast share similar features- almost identical features really. They both look like bipedal bison on bath salts.

It's only reasonable to assume then, that they are the same cow, under the influence of different choices. What Spirit breaker truly represents, based on looks alone is that the beast, in a different time, decided to stop sulking in a giant castle to take up a career in ass-kicking. No one knows when the beast that would break spirits and backs chose this path, but when he did, I can assure you that he gored the diseased peasant responsible for turning him into a cow in the first place. It's also probable to assume that the beast gained his inter-dimensional ass-kicking powers by consuming said peasant, and absorbing her powers.

Spirit Breaker still found love in this timeline, but it was awesome space love, with the space princess of cosmic bar fights. His troubles were lightyears away. The things that existed in space made him less conscious of his appearance. He was famous for hitting things really hard, but he still wondered what it would be like if he stayed on Earth with the centuries-dead rose.

He visited the Earth where he did not become Spirit Breaker. He charged about the home of the decidedly human beast that occupied it. He bashed the princess, awaiting a friendly bash back, but received no such greeting. Instead, there was only ruin and bits of royal viscera in the castle's courtyard. Spirit Breaker knew that the timeline that would have made him human was crap, and so he returned to space where he could fight and be manly.
