With Persona 5 releasing in about a month, I wanted to see what the general consensus is around here. I've put around 130 hours into 3 (though I'm still not done), and when i finished 4 it ended up becoming my favorite game of all time.

P4 only because I dislike the protagonist in P3. I like the cast of characters in P3 better though.

Interesting! I do like the P3 cast overall, but I'd go so far as to say that the P4 team might be my favorite group of characters in all of fiction. My biggest problem with SEES is that while they are emotionally compelling, they are dry, humorless, and unrelatable by comparison to me. The investigation team is so well written and human to the point that my experience playing the game hits this feeling of hanging out and adventuring with a real group of friends closer than any game before. Still though, I haven't finished P3 yet, so it's possible that my opinion will change.

P4 was good but P3 was, and still is, the only game to make me cry when the credits rolled and made me depressed for a week after.

Funnily enough, Persona 4 Golden made me tear up more than any other game I've played, though it's almost a unanimous agreement that P3 has one of te best endings ever (though reactions to the answer are much more mixed).

Persona 4 because of its stronger social links, character development, and animated cutscenes. I will say that I found Persona 3's story to be more intriguing though.

I prefer P4G in almost every way. It has better music, stronger cast overall, a story with pacing that isn't complete ass, and superior combat mechanics. P3 has some good parts, but it's ultimately rougher and outshone by its sparser PSP remake.

I played P4G for a good 150+ hours and still playing it just for the fun of it. I like both P3 and P4, the music has always been top notch, no joke there. This might be the first time that the persona series has a fresh new looks to it.

I'll always prefer Persona 3, thanks to the story and characters.

Persona 4 had good characters as well, but the cast and plot didn't feel like as much of a driving force as they did in 3. The game mechanics were greatly improved for 4 though. For example, having party members with a high social-link jump in the way of a deathblow for you is a small, but nice detail.

I've avoided looking at too much of 5's promotional stuff (trying to avoid spoilers) but I'm a little worried it's going to rank below both 3 and 4, although in fairness, they're tough acts to follow.

I've been avoiding anything P5 related as well. I prefer going into games blind.

I think both games were excellent and so were both animes (the P4 anime, not the P4G anime)

P4G - better game, better characters

P3 - better anime

I loved persona 3 so much more than 4, even with the story of golden.
It was somehow darker and the character stories just seemed to draw me in so much more.

I haven't played Persona 3: FES yet. I have played Persona 3 Portable though and I have to say I enjoyed that more than I did Persona 4 Golden. I enjoyed the cast, social links, and overall story more in P3 and P3 threw me through a lot more loops and emotional moments. I also wasn't a huge fan of Marie in Golden. I didn't hate her, but I didn't really like her either. I just don't think her inclusion added much to the game for me.

Two of my favorite games of all time. Just finished Persona 5 as well. I'm going to rate all 3 and break them down into the categories I judge them by the most.

Party and Social Links/Confidants:

1. Persona 3: FES
2. Persona 5
3. Persona 4: Golden

Setting:

1. Persona 5
2. Persona 3: FES
3. Persona 4: Golden

Plot:

1. Persona 4: Golden
2. Persona 3: FES
3. Persona 5

Overall:

1. Persona 3: FES
2. Persona 5
3. Persona 4: Golden

I loved how dark Persona 3 was, didn't pull any punches. Persona 4 had the best twists and I had a ton of fun end game. Persona 5 was fun throughout and if the ending had fit together a little more smoothly would probably be my favorite.
