I've been using the app on my Galaxy S5 and usually use about 2-3gb a month but recently in as little as 3 days I've used 5gb and haven't used the app anymore than usual. Seems on average a episode is over 500mb is this normal?

This could have to do with the whole changes in bitrate and overall video quality. With improved quality means that there will be larger file sizes and more data usage.

This is just my speculation, so I'm not sure if this is exactly the cause.

yeah, recently noticed this while watching Gundam Build, watched 2 episodes on the X1 and saw that I used 2GB in that hour for 2 episodes. nice quality but a big boost in data usage. 300MB to 1GB

Low quality means 480p in this context, not lower video quality.

Eventually we have just returned the bitrate to the level it used to be at. It was at a very low level across all resolutions unintentionally for some time.

How does one change the video quality on the app? I haven't seen a option for it.

but shouldn't low quality use a lower bitrate as well? i'm guessing most people who chooses low are trying to save on their limited bandwidth instead of blowing through 2-3 GB in a week or so

Files are much smaller at 480p than at 1080p. Each episode should be at around 150 megs max at 480p.

maybe before the update.
after the new app update my data usage took an sharp spike upwards

if it is around 150MB then my best guess is that the low quality flag got reset but when i check the quality setting it was still on low. i set it to auto then back to low so i can check again when my cell phone plan resets in 2 weeks

so I just tried it again.
I set the video quality to high and then back to low. Played twin star exorcists ep 49 for 8 minutes and the crunchyroll app managed to consume 500MB
I don't think this is right. Is there anyway I can get video information to see what resolution and bitrate it's playing at? The new app now uses way too much data for me to watch animes on my bus ride

Change to a 3 unlimited data plan then, I regularly rinse 60 gig a month or more quite easily.

Is there any chance that Crunchyroll will fix this issue?? It's ridiculous that my plan reset two days ago and I have the video quality set to low but somehow managed to burn 2.27 gb of data watching two 24 minute episodes.

Is happening to me also but I wasn't watching the data usage and it end up using over 9 gb that caught me off guard. when my data reset played a video for 30 seconds and looked it was over 100 mb went to netflix watch 25 minutes of a show only used 118 mb... so something has to be wrong

is there any way to contact support about this insane data usage?
they seem to be ignoring the forums and it's been a few months already. I can't seem to find a contact us link anywhere
