I have seen a site called Anime Bananas advertising itself as a source of legal anime streaming. It says it works with other legal sources of anime, such as Crunchyroll and Hulu. I am sceptical, but I could be wrong. Basically, it seems to embed the video players from these other websites into its own. I am a mod at another site where Anime Bananas has been advertising itself. I was wondering if anyone could tell me whether it is legit? It says it is similar to Anime Planet, but I am not sure whether that is legitimate either.

I haven't heard of Anime Bananas, but Anime Planet is legit.

ETA: BTW, there's a bug in the forums with uploaded images -- you need to remove the extraneous "$" from the id for the image to display. I've edited your post to do that. However, that shows that you've got another problem with the image. Here's a link to a Site Support post that includes a section on glitchy gifs like that: /forumtopic-806747/quick-answers-for-common-questions#43413513

Never heard of a fansub site called Anime Banana, let alone a legal site

All I find with a google search is a bunch of hits for the Bananya anime.

Anime Planet is very legit. I prefer it over MAL (MyAnimeList) for anime cataloging since it doesn't have a history for having shit tons of drive by viruses via bad ads. Even their mobile site to this day is just lousy with that crap.

Been using Anime Planet for several years now, and its been pretty helpful for keeping my anime watching organized.

I just checked the site out. I won't link to it in case it turns out to not be legit.

Their catalog is H-U-G-E. It seems like they are pulling anime that has been licensed by other companies, CR, Hulu, Viewster, etc., and doing an embed. The CR shows appear to be the 480p streams with Ads.

This is from their "about us":

AnimeBananas is made by otakus for otakus. The team behind one of the most legendary anime platforms decided to move the landscape, by making legal anime available to everyone and add playlists, automatic tracking and many more functions on the go.
It seems they're sourcing "legit" streams that are hosted on other sites. So, pulling the free steams into an embed and putting their own Ads around it.

Hmmm...

/Edit: yeah, the Hulu streams are Ad supported and untouched. Just sourced from the Hulu site. So it seems like a site that scrapes for free and/or Ad support anime streams and indexes them in one place.

So far I haven't run across any re-purposed HD fansub streams that are common on other streaming sites.

/Edit 2: Ad blocking works on all streams except the Hulu streams. So that's normal. Not sure if they are enforcing Region restrictions. I guess they'd have to be since they are simply source the streams and not re-uploading them.

I just found it also. I find it weird that (at least in some cases--I haven't browsed a lot) they use a romaji version of the Japanese title, even when the anime source uses an English language title for a show.

My guess about enforcing region restrictions is also yes--for a show sourced from crunchyroll it recognized me as me signed into crunchyroll as a premium member, showing that "Exclusive stream for message" and showing me the episode without ads, and when I check my queue on crunchyroll, the progress on the episode was updated from watching it. When I tried watching a new premium-members only episode when I wasn't logged in, it gave me the message saying that's it only for premium members.

It would make me feel a lot more comfortable if Crunchyroll had announced an arrangement (like they did when Anime Planet started).

However, I do know that you can also directly link through to some CR shows from legit sites like ANN, and I've always imagined that as a way CR advertises. (a difference there seems to be that it does not automatically recognize you as logged in to crunchyroll when you are).

We source from legitimate sources, and are in touch with providers or in compliance with their policies. From Crunchyroll we use the affiliates XML feeds, which are not accessible to everyone. Please note, that we do absolutely NOT put our own or any ads around the streams. The ads are by Crunchyroll and it will remain that way, as we have no right or intention to make money of that content.

We respect all regional restrictions, and definitely do not re-upload any content as that would be illegal and against the policies of our providers.

For further information you can contact us on http://animebananas.tv using the contact form or reach us by [email protected] - we will also be attending Anime exhibitions in the year to follow.

We are effectively working on legitimizing our design and trying to reach more providers to provide their contents in feeds. We want to combat illegal streaming by making legitimate streams more accessible. We also provide quality reviews and are working on adding a polished buzz section.

Their entire site is a direct rip of anime-planet, including the images that list what streaming sites they use, so I don't think it's very 'legit', lol.

I see a lawsuit in their future XD

Hi kari5,

Thank you for your post. We have identified together with the owner of anime-planet design facets that need modification on our end. For other than that as per our agreement or affiliation with providers, our site is a legit streaming site promoting legal anime channels. We look forward to make anime accessible everywhere in the world.

Feel free to contact [email protected] for very specific questions.

Peace,
bananasama

I think my point still stands. Its very clear your entire site is a direct copy of anime planet so it shouldn't exist as you're stealing the work of their developers. Stealing other people's property doesn't make you legit, and in fact makes you the opposite. Admitting you're being told to change parts of your site is just telling us that it's true you stole their work to use as the framework of their entire site. I'm surprised you're not already shut down.

Tdlr: Don't use this site, just use Anime Planet instead.

Hi kari5,

We agree to some extent, as in our vision we suggest users to use any legitimate anime streaming site, be it Crunchyroll, Hulu or any other official provider of anime content, that includes Anime Planet. Our mission is to support the legal anime streaming industry.

The few sections which had similar designs on animebananas, have been put in motion for change, we believe it will be hard to find visual similarities even sooner. We can't picture ourselves in your false claims of stealing or other allegations. These are as a matter of fact very childish accusations.

We suggest all Otaku's to watch anime straight on the providers site and take subscriptions to optimally support content providers. The more subscriptions there will be, the more hard-to-find anime can be licensed internationally. We animebananas hope to be part of the adventure to facilitate the process.

For what matters most here, go Crunchyroll!

Best Regards,
animebananas

This is one of the most encouraging reasons why animebananas exists. We help users find legal anime streams. Many otakus are simply not aware of the availability of legal content or find it difficult to switch between the legitimate providers of licensed content. We facilitate the process by providing a seemless experience, while solely let the providers benefit of our UI.

Thank you for your post.

Best Regards,
animebananas

=
the entire site, lol

-The design was taken from AP.
-Core ideas/features taken from AP. (All the ways to track your anime, feeds, andreview sections are copy/pasted directly from AP)
-Most of the descriptions taken from MAL/other sites.
You don't exact have any original content left.

Just gonna start over from scratch? That's probably the only way to make sure that "a few sections" aren't stolen material.

Actually, I'll give you guys a hand since you're planning on updating your site. Your site is slow so I just grabbed the first few similarities I saw.
(sorry for large image sizes)

You LITERALLY copy and pasted their terms of service. Who do you think is childish?
