I've avoided comedy manga despite watching a lot of comedy anime. I feel like without voice actors and comedic timing the jokes tend to lose a lot of the humor. Some of my favorite anime are comedy first shows like Gintama, Sakamoto desu ga, etc.

What do guys think about this? Do you have the issues with comedy manga?

Some jokes just work in any format, and manga are often longer and more complete than anime (so, more potential). Other times, different jokes work in anime and in manga. For instance, many things that would be gross, nonsensical, or just odd in anime, can work well in a panel-by-panel format where the reader's imagination fills in the gaps between the panels.

Also, Angel Densetsu is just frickin hilarious, and it's only available as a manga...
