I guess the online media services shakeout is in full swing. I'm pretty disappointed with Funimation right now. Their HTML 5 video service is not very good. The subtitles are cheap closed caption style now. On the last anime I watched there, the subs were not even for the episode I was watching so I was forced to listen to the dub. Funimation's site lacks quality now. It's little more than bait and switch site that gives you half baked dubs, bad subs and a bad streaming experience.

I like CrunchyRoll. I've been a Premium member since Premium became a thing here. I'm a little wary of VRV.

I have a different viiew ( not to question your like of CR) I dropped CR becuade videos wont play / the sat wesite 404 eroors / or unavailable / the website is down > I know other good anime people dropped their subs because of all the problems go see the help forum.

Then there was the BIt Rate mees that made big news That was pretty cheap of CR to decrease video qualitly

Heck in the anime foeum there It's Sat will CR crash is a regular item now

SO with VRV I could get CR / FUNI and Rooster Teeth ( especially for RWBY)

Again it's just my IMO nothing with you I am giving my angst and others !

It was like 6 years of being a steady customer onu tu watcg CR go downhiil after Chernin / Elation bought into CR

I admit CR has problems. It's far from perfect. I've experienced the site problems with pages that won't display properly, video that stops or stitters. Reducing quality is probably more due to the increase use of handheld devices for viewing. You don't need 1080p for a smartphone. I still use my PC more since I also program as a hobby. I use my Android tablet more for reading Manga and Discord.

Thanks for your response.

So, I tried out VRV mostly to see what the Crunchyroll experience was on it compared to the Crunchyroll App on Xbox One.

PROS:

- It is a lot more performant
- It has a cleaner UX that takes advantage of the 1080p screen real estate better
- Video Quality appears to be at least on par with the native app, but it takes a a couple more seconds to scale from low res to high res than the native app.

CONS:

- Can only fast forward or rewind in 30 second increments. This is extremely frustrating as I occassionally just miss 1 line of text in a conversation and want to rewind quick to see it. With this app, I would have to rewatch a whole 30 seconds.
- No "Recently Updated" view. This is what i use more than anything on the native app to keep up with my anime and discover new anime as a new season is released.

For me right now, the CONS are too strong and the PROS are too weak to get me to move over to the VRV system.

I signed up for VRV, linked account, etc. It's simple, but now I can't figure out how to search the site for show. I want to type in words, not scroll though images to find shows. I think that's a pretty major CON. But since I can still access the CR site I guess I have the best of both worlds for now. I canceled my Funimation and HULU subscriptions. So a PRO for me is I can spend less overall, and get more. I'm sure the VRV site will improve.

So if I link my account into VRV will I be charged as a part of VRV, subscription in addition to Crunchyroll, or will my VRV channel just verify my login here and not charge me?

For those who are considering this to get funimation let me tell you that not all of funimation anime is on VRV, you can only watch funimation dub not sub and the site can be a bit tricky to navigate(at least on the ps4) . I'll will also remind you that before this little experiment crunchyroll made a partnership with funimation and there getting many popular shows from them, ex: My hero academia is now on crunchyroll, so if your getting this for funimation shows with the sub DON'T they are not goint to be on VRV beside sooner or later crunchyroll would add them to their library. my point is if your not a funimation dub fan or have an interest on the other stuff on VRV save you'r money.

P.S.

Having a VRV account does NOT give you access to the funimation own webservice .

Trying the VRV thing. Got the premium subscription, though honestly CR and Funi are the only 2 "channels" included that I will probably ever watch. It would be nice to have access to my CR queue on the VRV website. Also some type of search function would be great. Finding specific shows is a little time consuming.

Linked my crunchyroll account.]

I'm mad that none of the videos will playing using Edge. Works for chrome though. I also don't see a search function. Well, it is in beta.

After linking my Crunchyroll account, it says I am not a premium member even though I have been premium for quite some time. I'll wait until they work out more of the kinks before I dive into VRV.
