If you want better gas mileage they say go with premium. If you want to get the max horsepower out of your engine, premium. If you want to save money in general go regular dog water.

Easy, It's all about engine detonation.

Cars have combustion engines, (simplified) Inside the engine theirs a piston that goes up and down gasoline is injected into the chamber (unless it has a carburator) which is then lit by a spark plug. The piston goes down from the pressure of the ignited gas fluid via spark plug. Their are also valves inside the piston chamber one to exhaust the lit byproduct of fuel/air the other feeding in the fuel. Their are 4 stages of movement within a 4 stroke cycle engine.

1st is the intake stroke of fuel from fuel injector into the engine's chamber. The piston goes down causing a vacum. Shoving fuel into the chamber.
2nd is the compression compression the piston chamber now filled with fuel compresses said fuel up to the top where the spark plug is. It sparks causing the third step
3rd power stroke the fuel at the very top of the pistons movement is lit and the piston is forced down. leading to the 4th.
4th the exhaust stroke. the second valve opens up all the lit fuel/air gets exhausted via a valve.

The 2nd stroke the compression stroke where it compresses fuel is when engine detonation can occur. If you're driving a sports car you want to use specific fuel designed for that car or bad things happen like engine detonation. If you're driving a ricey honda accord from the 90's. You want to use specific fuel or you'll get engine detonation.

So timing is incredibly important for cars especially when wanting to go more fasts and you're all out of jdm stickers. If you put in the wrong fuel and it detonates early or late, you lose power/waste fuel/ and potentially ruin your engine.

TLDR; put the right gas in for the right car or engine no worky worky.

I have a nissan quest, and the manual says that i can use regular, but premium was better. I used regular for 8 months with no problem, but then started using premium and my gas consumption dropped around 10%, and also saw that using regular crashes the engine slowly..

Big mistake, using regular when premium is needed. Made the car sound like it was boiling water over a ratchet stove.

Never again.

Premium for premium, unless otherwise noted.

Regular. I'm a cheap bastard. My car isn't anything special either, I bought it used. The most I do for it is put in synthetic oil. The manual recommended it, and I see a bigger difference there.

I always lease so regular gas for me.

I see cars like cell phones, you don't want to be stuck driving the same one forever.

Plus I never have to worry about a breakdown, every 3 years, a new car, I don't understand the hate for leasing.

I use regular, instructed by manual. I asked around and was told premium is a rip off! -shrugs-

I drive a lot (4-5 hours every day) so leasing is not good for me because I believe they give you a mileage limit and the more you use it the more you pay and you have to take care of it.

Leasing is good when you don't have to drive a lot and far away. For long drives, buying a car works better for me.

I love my 2004 car, even if it's all scratched up and old.

Btw, I use premium once a month. I can't afford paying premium all the time, it's like $45 for premium and I fill it out 3 times a week.

I used to feel the same way but now they waive the mileage fee if I lease a new vehicle. Also they have mileage insurance type agreement for like another 300 bucks which in 3 years is like an extra 10 bucks on your payment so you dont really feel it. But I totally understand, like I could never be an uber driver while leasing a car, cause of mileage. I think mine is 12000 a year and with this current car, I have had it for a year and a half so far and my current mileage is about 8000, so I am doing doing pretty good.
