Post Reply Mom leaves child behind at grocery store

I have been following this story for awhile of the parent who just left their child behind at grocery store
it made me more angry to watch this video. So many incompetent parents.

I do not really see the problem if it is a one time thing.

Now doing something of this nature or on purpose is another story

Doesn't this happen to a great deal of people?

Well, according to the video (and other articles about the same situation) it seems that Chiengkham Vilaysane is schizophrenic and has had issues with the Riverside police due to her mental issues and drug use. I wouldn't necessarily consider this as "incompetent parenting" as much as a very likely side-effect of her mental issues. It's negligence, to be honest. Regardless of her schizophrenia, this is something that would require outside intervention (like her family that she's no longer in communication with).

Though, nowadays, things like this happen. I remember a few cases where people couldn't afford an abortion so they just had the baby and left it in the trash (wrapped in a plastic bag) in the DC Metro area as I grew up. Back then, nobody really looked for the mother of the child and just considered it a horrible situation altogether. If the child wasn't two years old and this hadn't happened in a public area .. this wouldn't have ended even remotely the same way.

I see so many news about parents abusing/abandoning/murdering their children.

What's going on?? I just read like 10 news in 2 days about parents killing their kids or abusing them. It's so sad, if someone doesn't want the kids put them up for adoption please.

Leaving you're kid behind, or getting left behind?

Yeah, hopefully she will find better parents. If the mom has schizophrenia then I agree that the child should have been under someone else's care. The family didn't seem supportive of the child either so in my eyes that entire family is pretty messed up.

I agree. That whole family is messed up for not wanting to help their little niece / grandchild. They said she had two kids. What happened to the older kid?

Got taken away by CPS as well. The sad part is kids get taken in by foster care, most of the time foster homes will neglect the children. By the time they finally get adopted the parents decide they don't want to take care of a child with mental problems. So they will endure more foster homes and stuff like that. So it's safe to say these kids most likely won't grow up any happier than they would have been under the mothers care.
