Noticed this today:

http://store.steampowered.com/sale/anime-weekend-sale/

I don't remember this from Steam before but is this a recent partnership between Steam and CR?

Kabaneri is there and according to the page it is a streaming service. Does this mean there's a limit to Amazon's exclusivity on noitaminA shows?

I never knew you could get anime on steam, but it's not economical at all compared to a crunchyroll subscription, unless you only want to watch one thing.

This is one that even though Amazon had the streaming rights, Crunchyroll has home distribution rights to. I wonder if the fact that it's a purchase by episode thing makes a difference.

I just saw the steam page, it seems pretty weird to me: i tired clicking on a couple series and they're offerend in streaming only, i don't really see the point if that's the case for all. I could understand buying and downloading series, but paying for streaming individual anime seems dumb when you can use something like CR

I knew Crunchyroll had the home rights so I assumed that meant Amazon only got exclusive streaming rights. Similar to Netflix with Sentai releasing Ajin and Funimation releasing Seven Deadly Sins for home release.

I know they talk about being steampowered, but this is ridiculous!

With Steam once you've bought it, you have it for life. So even if they stop selling the show, you will always be able to watch it.

Are they region locked though?

Because there are shows on there that I can't watch on CR...

That's what I need to know. I live in Japan now so I can't use my Crunchyroll subscription. If this is a workaround I'd be really happy. I'm doing anything I can to avoid piracy.

Going straight to crunchyroll is definitely the more economical and overall better option. However this WILL bring more people into anime, make money for both companies, and ultimately pull more people into Crunchyroll. I view it as a win. But I do pity the poor suckers who drop money on all that before realizing Crunchyroll is just better and cheaper.

Then again, I remember paying $100 for a season of Inuyasha at one time so....compared to that this is still good and for a full season of content the prices are not bad. You could do way worse than $12 for a full season of Bungo Stray Dogs or $0.99 per episode. Crunchyroll is just that amazing of a deal. Hundreds upon hundreds of hours of anime for fairly low prices.

this is potentially really good though, anime has always had a supply problem and selling on steam is one more way to buy anime legally that could potentially have the same effect on piracy as steam in general has with game piracy, as in its so cheap and fast to buy games that noone can really be bothered trying to pirate them

Anything that makes anime easier to buy is very important for the anime industry especially if we end up getting anime that arent on crunchyroll like one piece in the UK.

Maybe steam can re-distribute anime in zones outside NA? That would make sense then since people can't watch them on CR due to region blocks.
