No comment on the "twist"?

I mean, that seems like literally the absolute worst possible way to handle the casting criticisms. >.>

Regardless, looks like its bombing at the box office now. Not a total surprise, really. I mean, if you're going to remake a movie you don't go out of your way to drive off fans of the original. If you're not making it for the fans, but still trying to cling to the IP to attract newcomers and walking into a hot button industry topic like whitewashing?

It's not like Hollywood isn't riddled with examples of high profile failures that resulted from these same issues that they could have learned from.

I haven't seen it, yet. But I have a few friends who barely even know what anime is that went to go see it "just because it looked awesome"... I keep laughing at just how much probably goes over their heads with this film because they'd never heard of the anime when we were all in high school and jr. high.

I’ve finally had a chance to sit down at a cinema and watch Ghost in the Shell. I really wanted to like this movie. It’s visually stunning and true to the style of the anime source material but the 3rd act of the story left me extremely disappointed.

Hollywood changed the Major's backstory just so they could preach yet another anti-technology message and that really pisses me off. They’re almost self-loathing in a way, Hollywood fears the power of technological advancement and yet they rely on that same technology to make their blockbuster movies.

I’m tired of being preached to by hypocritical Hollywood movies about how I’m a bad person for loving technology and believing in what technology can do to improve the human condition. In the end Ghost in the Shell just become another blunt instrument for Hollywood to bludgeon their audience with.

I've only seen the original movie so can't say I am really attached to the series. I thought it was a good sci-fi movie and enjoyed it, as did everyone else that was in the theatre (audience clapped at the end).

The movie was so-so and my thoughts are similar to Yahoo Movies Japan. I agree that Olivia Wilde could have been the right choice. She looked so hot in the Tron remake.
