Today, you may have noticed a certain FOX GIRL on the Steam sale!! It’s ME ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

We’ve partnered with Steam to bring you anime as part of Steam’s Anime Weekend Sale, and we’d like to answer some of the questions you might be having!

What’s this?
We’ve partnered with Steam to distribute some of our favorite titles through the Steam platform so you can watch anime in new ways!

What am I paying for?
Purchasing anime on Steam gives you the ability to stream series through the Steam platform, whenever you want. You will have access to anime purchased on Steam without expiration.

These titles are not available for download at this time.

What is the video quality of these streams?
The videos provided to Steam are 1080p videos (when possible) encoded from the Crunchyroll masters.

Why isn’t X available in my region?
Anime on Steam is available in the regions that Crunchyroll has secured the rights to distribute in, and varies from title-to-title. Crunchyroll is always working to continue expanding availability for anime to the broadest global audience possible, and your feedback and support is helpful in our efforts to secure broader rights.

Will Crunchyroll support languages other than English on Steam?
We are currently working with Steam to expand language availability - please keep an eye out for updates shortly.

Do you plan on adding more anime to Steam?
Yes! Of course!

Why can’t I buy full season bundles in some regions?
If you’re experiencing any unexpected behavior with the sale, please contact Steam Customer Support at https://help.steampowered.com/en/.

Does Steam include [x feature]?
The Steam video player is a different way to experience your favorite anime. If you have questions around the specifics of the Steam video player, please contact Steam Customer Support!

Please let us or Steam know if you have any questions or concerns, and please enjoy!!

Here's a comparison of video encoding between Steam and Crunchyroll:

-- https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/62grcl/crunchyroll_vs_steam_quality_bungo_stray_dogs/ (thread)

Consensus at Reddit is the Steam encodes are a little better quality than what you pay for here. A larger Reddit discussion on the partnership with some interesting observations can be found here:

This kind of took me off guard. I'm not sure if this is a something I'll be supporting, especially knowing Valve's reputation when it comes to doing business and how they handle customers.

It costs more to buy a full season of one anime than to pay for a month of Crunchyroll. And both of them are still streams. Why would I pay for this?

are you guys going to add a rent option? this is my biggest problem with video's on steam is that so many are buy only, I only want to watch them once, I know steam has the rent options because i've seen a few movies with it If you added the rent option that would be very preferable

Also you have Kabaneri listed as one of your shows on steam, but its still not on the catalogue here? when is that going to be available here?!

also, lol no member discounts? because there is literally no incentive for me to pay to watch something on steam that i can basically watch for free here

I love the idea of having it on Steam, making Steam even more multi functional.

Though I do have to scratch my head at why I would have to pay for the Seasons if I already am paying here on the Crunchyroll Website. The Encoding is a little bit better, but that does not mean that I want to pay such a large sum for a single season of an anime series.
For instance, if I would want to watch NANBAKA, I would have to pay CHF 4.55. On the Crunchyroll Website I would pay a monthly charge of $6.95, but also have unlimited access to all other Anime like 91 Days, while on Steam it would cost another CHF 4.55 to have it (And that's with all the price reductions currently on Steam!).

It defeats the purpose for me as a Premium User to use the Steam Streaming Service that you guys make possible. It would be a neat thing to link the Steam Account with the Crunchyroll Account, giving the Premium Users a nice discount or even giving them the series for free! (Not permanent, just as long as we're paying here)

I am just thinking out of my head, seeing as I don't think Valve would be willing to make account linkages just for a single service. If other services like Netflix or Amazon would request that feature as well, Valve would maybe implement a linking feature, making such a thing possible. But for now, I can only dream.

Just to check.

1) Without expiration means even if CR loses the licenses to a program you will never have it removed from steam?

2) Does the 50% of steam cost still go back to Japan as with CR subs, or is valve eating that chunk instead?

You really dont see why the single biggest digital distribution platform in the west would be a good place to sell digital goods?
