i'll stick to crunchyroll, no point if you can't download. Might as well watch it on CR. I could see the use if the series expires from the catalog and it is your favorite or something but even then just buy the dvd...

The last I saw on it indicated a "waiting to receive the materials" problem. That type of thing isn't an uncommon issue in the industry, and you would think as many times as they've missed announced deadlines (especially concerning anything online), Funimation would have learned about, "The best laid plans...".

Here's a comparison of video encoding between Steam and Crunchyroll:

Consensus at Reddit is the Steam encodes are a little better quality than what you pay for here. A larger Reddit discussion on the partnership with some interesting observations can be found here:

/Edit: spelling.

Judging by those captures it would look like Steam has colour space conversation issues. Thus reds appear deeper and have magenta shift.

I don't really see the appeal of this to existing Crunchyroll users. Either way you are streaming anime to your PC. In the case of Steam, your gaming PC or Steambox. Maybe this is meant to appeal to anime fan Steam users who have never used Crunchyroll before? Someone who loved playing the Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm games and Dragonball Z Xenoverse games on Steam and can't bring themselves to log out but now want to check out the anime?

What's the point of this, I can just go on the website and watch my shows here. Seems like a ploy to get less users on the site so they can relieve some stress and traffic on CR servers.

It's probably for non-CR people

I can see more people getting into legal anime as a result of this as some people on steam will sell there steam cards to get enough money to get a series on the list especially if viewing is at 1080p. However, I am worried that as a CR premium user that it makes my CR premium account a less value for money transaction...hope that makes sense. I know that steam's webbrowser is ancient and generally runs like a dial up modem but if i sold some of my steam trading cards i could technically grab an anime series for free (which is how i see some people buying into the legal anime) so the proposition of CR premium account feels like a bit nerfed if you aren't into watching the latest episode of any given episode...given that CR has distro rights in given region.
TL;DR what will make CR premium a good choice over steam anime sales except for getting latest episode subtitled asap?

Too bad we can't link accounts to watch some of the shows (without DL availability when it becomes available).I should link my playstation account to steam sometime, maybe.

Just to check.

1) Without expiration means even if CR loses the licenses to a program you will never have it removed from steam?

I don't think distribution rights work this way. CR has the rights and distributes through Steam. Valve would have to negotiate with the license owner to continue distributing the anime CR loses rights to. "No expiration" in the original post probably just means it's not a rental.
