Yesterday I installed the new Xbox One update and now the Cruchyroll app crashes within 5 seconds of starting the app.

I've already tied uninstalling & reintalling the app but it still keeps crashing.

So I tried unauthorizing my Xbox One and authorizing it again but I still get the same problem.

The app only seems to work when I'm not logged in, which means the only way I can use the app is by watching ads...

Have you checked your /queue for listings that have a blank white box where the next episode thumbnail could be and removed them? A large queue (over 50 entries) and a long history can also cause performance issues with the app.

I actually did have a problem before (months ago) where my queue would not load because of a show that had a white thumbnail. Removing it from my queue did solve the problem but this time the app just crashes randomly within 5 seconds of starting it.

I've been using the Crunchyroll app on my PS4 and that one works just fine with no problems, so that leads me to believe the reason the app crashes on the Xbox One is due to the new update the console got a couple of days ago.

I would rather use the Crunchyroll app on my Xbox One because I think it's a better version than the app the PS4 has, so I really hope I can get a solution to this issue soon...

Thanks for the advice though!

So after many attempts and no support from the handful of e-mails I sent Crunchyroll I have come to the conclusion that the new Xbox One update broke the Crunchyroll app and Crunchyroll simply does not care to fix this.

It's a shame because the Xbox One app was the best way to watch Cruchyroll on a home console. The design of the app was perfect.

Cruchyroll staff, I doubt you care enough to read this but in the miracle that you do you Xbox One app sucks. Fix it. I do not pay 60 dollars a year to have to put up with your incompetent apps. Just let me watch my japanese cartoons.

Ok. So after a while me and my friends found out if you pin an anime to your home, then you can access crunchyroll without it crashing

I can use the Xbox app maybe 30 minutes a day before it just gets consistent "Server Error" messages

yet another thing to add to the list of incompetencies that will never get fixed

SO how i fixed the problem was in deactivated ALL my devices then reconnected them that sloved the problem before even CR tech people could do it

I just tried this and can confirm that it works. I deactivated EVERY device, uninstalled and reinstalled the Xbox One app, then logged in, and finally everything worked. Just to be safe, I went to Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card and pinned the show (not the Crunchyroll app itself, but the actual quick link to the show) to my home screen just in case the App starts crashing again, as entering the app directly into a show seems to fix the crash problem sometimes.

That said, I am very VERY disappointed in Crunchyroll, and just canceled my VRV subscription right now. All these Xbox One issues have been very well known and long ongoing since the app came into existence, and I feel that it's totally unacceptable that the same exact problems are still going on this far into the Xbox One's life cycle.

I literally do not have these issues with ANY other CR app, including on Android, Win10 (Store App), Roku, PS3, and the older Xbox 360 app, which is rock-solid stable despite its pixelated, low-res thumbnails and such. I am very unimpressed with CR's console apps, as even the PS3 app has those horrible opaque black bars that block important parts of the scene and subtitles that you literally pause just to read, but you can't see them because of those dark black bars, which NEVER fade away. I don't know how many times I've complained about that UI issue alongside the Xbox One crashes, but somehow nothing gets done.

Now I enjoy legally paying all the content creators as much as possible, but given how much CR's pretty much a near monopoly now (especially since they're now collaborating with Funimation instead of competing) I am astounded at the number of problems they have. For now, I'll stick to competitors like Hulu, Netflix, and Anime Strike on Amazon (and maybe even try The Anime Network again for a time), and wait to see if CR improves. If not for the existence of competitors that also show legal anime, I'd be sorely tempted to pull a Monkey D. Luffy and see if I can be King of the Pirates.
