Episode 3

Carl's Jr. has been spotted.

Here comes Minnie C., who is originally from America. She is married to a soldier, and he was KIA'd and as such she wears a kimono because she feels his presence. In the meantime, Sana has a tracking device on her as she apologizes for the pigsty she made with those pigs. But while Sana is being integrated into the family, she gets kidnapped by Minnie C as she has the power to uses her late husband's strong arms to pin her down. So she's back to being a test subject. Just when it looked like everything was going to be well, Minnie C.'s surprise attack changed everything, and now it will be tough for Alice to get out of this situation.

Minnie C gives me the creeps...

She has to learn that her husband is DEAD and not coming back. Honestly, I don't think she is entirely stable anymore after her husband died and she is probably planning to use Sana to get him back. Pretty sure this will be a multi-episode arc. I wonder how they plan to save Sana though...

But seriously, I wouldn't be surprised if we see more characters like Minnie C in the future.

*sigh*

I have...mixed feelings about this show. Especially after this week's episode.

I had a hard time getting engaged with this show in the premiere, to the point that it took me two sessions to get through the 44 minute episode. If I had not read up on the slice-of-life aspect and been promised a sweeter slice-of-life show like Amaama or Poco, I would not have even bothered finishing the first episode, because the entire setup felt like Elfen Lied Lite, and Elfen Lied is...well...yeah.

But I watched it through, decided to stick with it. Then episode 2 happened, and episode 2 was exactly the show I wanted this to be and seeing Sana and Sanae together made me happy, and I really really loved episode 2 and I thought "okay, the plot's probably not going to go away, but at least maybe it'll stay more with THIS kind of thing and not the Elfen Lied stuff."

And then there's this assh--I mean, this week's episode.

*sigh*

I just don't know. The toilet scene disturbed me. Minnie C is an evil, sadistic, creepy freak. More to the point, the Elfen Lied shit got shoved violently back into the forefront after only one episode of what I actually want from this show, and it's going to be the main focus for at least one more episode before anything fun happens again.

I don't want to just drop this show, but...

I feel like I've been lied to. Like I can't trust this show to be what it was sold to me as anymore.

*sigh...*

This series feels rather dry; particularly the voice acting. When I'm listening to the voice actors, it seems apparent that they're recording separately. When I hear the dialogue, it doesn't sound like a conversation, but just reading lines independently. That's standard practice in the industry, but it usually doesn't feel this jarring.

Minnie C is quite messed up. I imagine that if her husband was revived, he would be disgusted with and reject her. This whole resurrection prospect is very reminiscent of Fullmetal Alchemist, and how characters in that series desperately tried human transmutation.

They really dress up some real dark elements/themes in that cutesy art style. I imagine how much impact it would have if instead of Minnie C's smiling mask broke character in that one moment and she actually had a contorted face and a nail on chalkboard sound effect to make your skin crawl. Though it's not like we are that attached to either Minnie C or Sana yet so, no matter how well you do something, if people don't care then it won't work. And this series isn't trying to go full Madoka either, how unusual.

The darker tones and Zoroku are the reasons why I'm still intrigued by this show.
Minnie C is slowly becoming one of those characters that you'd wish would die asap; but that will most likely stay alive till the end.
I wonder what's going to happen next. Will Zoroku chase after them? Given his character I highly doubt it; so maybe the two police officers might start investigating instead.

I'm really digging this show so far but I wonder would you guys consider this a dark magical girl/dark fantasy? To me it feelsl like a dark fantasy... not on the levels of "Madoka Magica" and far from "Magical Girl Rising Project"... but what do I know its only the third episode so here's a another subject up for debate: do you think this show will get darker?

It's pretty much another dark magical girl show. Not sure how I feel about it, it seems like an episode is missing between 2 and 3 that explains who the hell these other people are who have the same powers and why they want to protect Sana, What is their motivation? Why does the old man seem really familiar with them? Besides the crazy Minnie C we don't really know the motivations of this research facility either though we know that Minnie C wants Sana's power to create anything to resurrect her dead husband.

What are these powers? What are trump cards? How do people get these powers? I feel like they aren't really going to explain this stuff very well.

I'm sort of in the same boat as you are. For me it's not so much that I was wanting/expecting a more slice of lifeish show (though you are right in that being how it was pushed at first) but more just in that it feels so tonally all over the place. It's like it can't make up it's mind on what sort of show it wants to be and is failing at blending it's more disparate elements. Maybe as things move forward it will either pick one side and stick to it or at least get better at mixing both sides of the coin but I'm also disappointed in where the series is at right now.

I was having the same thought and was actually asking myself if I had somehow missed all or part of last weeks episode. Add that to the choice of narrator in the last episode (and the issues of varying tonality) and I'm feeling this show is thinking it's more clever than it really is.

I love the OP, I am playing it over and over again, so freaking catchy.

This is the first episode that doesn't have a happy for our protagonist, how is she going to get out of this pickle. I wonder if 4 eyes really evil, or does he believe what the organization is good and end justify the means.

Just me, or is this Punky Brewster the anime. Orphan little girl lives with cranky but still good hearted old man. This is Pinky only with magic and super natural stuff. And Punky never got herself into the terrible situation that Sana is in right now. If people can call Little Witch Academia, the Harry Potter anime, I can call this the Punky Brewster anime, it is only fair.

XD Glad I'm not the only one who made that analogy. Unfortunately, it's Punky Brewster meets Elfen Lied, which is a hideous combination.
