Plot Summary

Nearly half the population of Sakurada, a small town near the Pacific Ocean, has some sort of unique power. These powers range from being able to enter the mind of a cat, to resetting the world back to a certain point in time in the past. There is a group known as the "Kanrikyoku" that controls and monitors the use of these powers. Asai Kei and Haruki Misora work for their school's club called "Houshi" club, which execute any missions received from the Kanrikyoku. Misora has the ability to reset the world 3 days. This means that all events and any memory of the past 3 days that "could have" happened, never happened. Kei has the ability to "remember" the past. Even after Misora uses her powers to reset the world back 3 days, Kei will retain those 3 days in his memory. Combining their powers, these two solve missions issued by the Kanrikyoku.

The female lead, Haruki, is presented as someone the main character wants to like but who is awkward and often difficult to be around and this show is more or less the same. At first it seemed like this couldn't not be at least decent. David Productions working on a show with time travel and super powers seems like the makings of a great melodrama. I wanted to like this show but my god does it make it difficult. It seems to take every positive expectation I have of a David Production show and do the exact opposite. If you watched shows like Level E or JoJo's then you would probably expect expressive faces, unique visual framing, memorable characters and imaginitive super powers if you read that earlier part right? Well this show has none of that.

Almost every character's face is drawn in only a single way during the episode, with the only exception being the main character and they aren't even interesting facial expressions. Our two leads regale us with blank lifeless stares during their screentime and every other character's face is just a repetition of mundane anime faces that we've seen everywhere already. The awkward guy has a generic awkward guy face, the little girl has a generic little girl face and so on and so forth. It's not just the faces, practically nothing is in any way visually distinct or interesting. While we do get a few well framed shots, the obscene amount of flat and dull shots of characters standing around like statues and hackneyed back and forth "talking heads" shots during the many static dialog scenes kill any good will the one or two interesting shots may have built. My favourite character was the class rep girl and that's only because she was the only character who was animated with the slightest hint of body language, that's how boring the presentation in this show is.

Speaking of the characters, these have got to be the second worst characters in any show I've seen in any anime this season so far. And considering this season gave us the bafflingy titled Akashic Records of Bastard Magic Instructor, that's saying a lot. I am not exaggerating in any way when I say that I could not find a single interesting thing about any of the characters in this show. Every interaction they have may as well be white noise for how interesting it was, their designs are as low effort a cliche light novel design as you can get and the episode frames itself in a way where you're supposed to want to learn more about the characters, but it's half hour runingtime shows barely enough character to be worth mentioning. Here's all the characterization we get from this episode: The female lead is an overly-empathetic Mary-Sue who has the power to turn back time but loses her memories of the time she erases, the male lead is a wallflower with a low opinion of himself and the power to remember things based on his senses, the class rep girl wants to use their powers together to help people and the little girl is sad that her mother is dead and becomes attached to the female lead. That took you, what, a minute to read? I just saved you 29 minutes, so you're welcome.

The tedium train keeps rolling, however, as we're introduced to the city this takes place in. Now keep in mind, this city is the main hub of superpowers in this universe, so it's understandable to think of all the other superpowered locales from other stories. Metropolis, The Hero Academy, Konoha and even Morioh City, which David brilliantly brought to life in their adaptation of JoJo's part 4 are all small places filled with lots of superpowered people that have endeared themselves to us to the point where they have become ingrained in out conciousnesses. So what does David Production give us for this super-setting? An ordinary city. I know it sounds like I'm exaggerating but this show literally doesn't show a single thing about this town as a location that sets it apart from any normal town you would see in the real world. I don't even have the energy to explain all the ways that's stupid anymore.

There's more I could say about this show, like how none of the powers are explained, how bland and washed out the colours are or the boring and barely present score, but most of you have already probably skipped onto the next post already, so I'll just say that this show sucks.

This was one of the shows I was looking to the most this season and it's the biggest disappointment so far. It's a shame, because David Production is such a good studio and the plot seems to have some genuinely interesting themes about human motivation and decisions, but if I have to sit through presentation and characterization this bad to hear the message, then I'll happily have my ears plugged.

We get introduced to Kei and Haruki and we're given the premise of the show within Kei's viewpoint. Definitely off to a good start

the subtle undertones given throughout the last half of the episode gave me a From the New World feeling.

Am interested, but will give it a couple more episodes to sell me on.

Good and bad points. I thought the general concept and story intriguing. And while I didn't mind the MC much, Haruki was a problem. I just couldn't agree with the MC on his evaluation of her "pure" motives for helping others. Rather the opposite. If she resets just because she can't handle the sight of someone crying, it is selfish act done for her own sake. Hopefully, Haruki will improve.

Trippy, yet intriguing. Had some parts I liked, although some parts that were eh. Some scenes made it seem like I was watching a movie with shitty actors. Doesn't this series also have a live action adaptation?

Episode 1

Pretty interesting start this show is off to. Haruki's reset powers have limitations, but Kei is there to at least counteract one of them as he remembers everything that was erased that Haruki herself can't remember. And then there's the first case where some lost child's mother had committed suicide. That was an alright start there, but I'm not really feeling this show. I'll at least watch through the end of this case before deciding if this show is me or not considering that it is two cours long.

This show's existence pisses me off. Not only is it tedium incarnate, but David had to go ahead and make it 24 episodes long too. Here we are waiting for Vento Aureo and now they give us this drek. The fact that it's bad is one thing but the fact that it's double the length of a lot of anime means we're going to have to wait even longer for the show we actually want. Honestly my best educated guess is that we'll only see part 5 be animated by this time next year at the very earliest unless they go and outsource the shit out of the animation even worse than with DiU. Fuck Sakurada Reset.

I watched this a few days ago.

It was ok...I'll give it a few more episodes though to see if it grabs me.

But I also admit I'm mainly watching this because I've become a fan of Ishikawa (MC's VA)

Glad I wasn't the only one who had that sort of reaction.

There are some really interesting ideas here, and maybe we'll even get to them someday, but the show is so slow, lifeless and clinical in the way it's doing everything so far. It's like Haruki herself is producing the show. Despite the show seemingly wanting or even expecting me to be invested in the situation and characters I was just bored. I can get with a good drama. Heck, two of my favourite shows from last season were dramas, but this was just not interesting despite the interesting elements.
