I liked the first two episodes and hoped to get a good idea of what to expect but now with this third episode and the preview for the fourth I don't really know where this is going. Is this supposed to be a 'monster of the week'/slice of life show with abilities, is it supposed to have a clear overarching dramatic story, are we supposed to want those characters to evolve and if so what direction, are we still supposed to care about their dead friend of last week (since she is prety present in the OP) ...

It has the potential to be really good, but it's too wishy washy to get invested in or to set up any kind of expectations for it. Last weeks end twist could've been a good hook but we're again meandering around. They're hints of more going on than what is obvious, but I'd like a reason to be intruiged.

Going by the episode title structuring we are still to see the conclusion of the first two episodes. Ep 1 is Memory in Children 1/3, Ep 2 is Memory in Children 2/3, then Ep 3 is Cat, Ghost and Revolutionary Sunday 1/2. I almost get the feeling that they are not going to conclude the first part till towards the end of the season. Especially with another alteration occurring during a reset, and possibly another death.

It's an Amazon Strike property. EDIT: For the US. For rest of the World I don't know.

Ah yeah I've seen it on there for the US but I can't find it in the UK legally. Damn! Oh well, I'm sure it'll get picked up somewhere.

It is on Amazon Prime Canada video, the first episode anyway... hopefully we get the rest eventually and I thought it was on Amazon Prime UK as well but I can't check of course. I am watching elsewhere for now and watching it on Amazon to give it proper views when they bother to update it.

@tdev you're right, we haven't finished the first arc yet. A recursive anime? Perhaps Sumire will come back somehow ?

The tedium train keeps rolling...

Glad I wasn't the only one who had that sort of reaction.

It took me a while to muster up the willpower to give the second episode a try, and by about 10 minutes in I'd resolved to jump off that train. I'm not familiar with the studio, and hadn't heard much about the show, so I didn't have any expectations going in, but I initially responded to it similarly to how octorockandroll did.

There are some really interesting ideas here, and maybe we'll even get to them someday, but the show is so slow, lifeless and clinical in the way it's doing everything so far. It's like Haruki herself is producing the show. Despite the show seemingly wanting or even expecting me to be invested in the situation and characters I was just bored. I can get with a good drama. Heck, two of my favourite shows from last season were dramas, but this was just not interesting despite the interesting elements.

I agree with all of this.

Oh man, if you want to see this shitshow done right check out Tsukigakirei. It's not a show I'm likely going to watch week to week but it is definitely worth checking out for how similar yet far superior it is to Reset so far. It's not a 1:1 comparison mind you, Tsuki doesn't have the same grandiose thematic ideas Sakurada Reset has (or claims to have anyway) but if you want to see a show that goes for similar character and story beats as Reset, minus the superpowers that barely featured in the first episode anyway, but pulls it off with actual competence and know-how then watching the first episode is definitely a cool experiment.

I agree. Tsukigakirei's lack of pretension works in its favor. It's also got a kind of mellow pace, and has that awkwardness between characters--but it feels real and it works, and we like the characters and root for first love while cringing a little (in a sympathetic way).

I don't think I've ever dropped a show mid-episode, and I'm probably not going to do so here -- just about 10 more minutes left until I finish episode 2-- but I've been tempted more than once in the last 15 minutes.

Episode 4

So the MacGuffin is defined, and it is the one stone that controls all the power in this town. In the second timeline, Minami was killed by Yoshi, and Murase tries to kill Kei using her power to make objects disappear before Misora resets. So having taken all of that in, everybody sees Yoshi after learning about what the MacGuffin is, and things get bloody when Minami shows up. And then comes another reset after Murase kills Kei trying to figure out if Murase had been onto Kei, and Kei wins that bet. That was rather dramatic, but at the same time too much for me to comprehend. I wasn't planning to stick with this show, but I wanted to at least see this to the end, so now that I have, I have had enough of this snoozefest.

Welp, as much as the first episode piqued my interest, I was hoping that things would start picking up and there'd be an underlying factor as to why Kei behaves so stoically. And as I watched 'til the 4th, that hope felt lost. I find myself shakin' my head more often than I thought.

The concept that encompasses each case was the only good factor that kept me held upto this point, but sadly, it aint a strong enough quality to overpower the negatives. Poor execution of dialogues.... bland pacing.... Haruki showing some promise of character development, but now, I believe I'll find more excitement watchin' a Pinter play than see her move forward..... and the times when a different character shows up and we're forced to accept that this is a someone with this & this power, felt more like a struggle to make a simple plot complex just by having them there. These are only to name a few.

So yup, time to let this go.

Flashback episode this week, something about pureness in the heart. I sort of got, but at the same time I'll probably have to re-watch this episode to fully get it. Thinking emoji.

Looking at the episode timeline its, Ep1 - Ep2 - Ep5 - Ep3 - Ep4 - Ep 6. Anyways the episode was intriguing, we met a few characters, some dangerous and lots of questions should be answered in the next few episodes.

From episode 7, I think this show establishes Eri Oka as the first true antagonist. Kinda interesting how she is able to use her ability to her advantage and using mind games to throw other people off.

I wonder how Kei is going to get out of this one tbh as he's trapped in the world of that picture.
