There's a trailer on YouTube and at the end it gives 4/27/2018 as the release date, so it won't be too much longer.
Here's the link: https://youtu.be/qBzUI8oivW4.

Awesome. Thanks for the heads up.

So about the upcoming OVA (if you've only seen the donghua (anime) it's set in early January 201X following the events of Season 1 (pre closing credits). Believe it or not Season 1 takes place over a one month period based on the web novel's time frame. Ye Xiu's forced retirement from Excellent Era took place on December 2nd and the 10th server went online at midnight December 3rd (Chapter 857 & 884); the anime concludes several days before Christmas. The ep 12 post credit stinger is a flash forward to Summer (very possibly Summer 1.5 years later).

Chen Guo purchases three tickets to the 6th Annual Glory All Star Show in Shanghai (identified as "City S" in the WN) and takes Ye Xiu and Tang Rou. The All Star Show is an annual Glory Event held the first weekend of January. 24 Pro League stars appear for 3 days of fun and competition. Team Samsara is the host team for the event (they are based in City S). The Pros that appear are selected based on popularity polls by Glory players/fans. So you know you'll be seeing Huang Shaotian, Su Mucheng, Big-Eyed Wang, Han Wenqing and others.

Day One of the All Star Show is the Opening Ceremony and the Rookie Challenge. A Rookie is a Pro Leaguer w/ less than two years pro experience. They challenge the Veteran All Star of their choice (of the 24 invited) to a 1v1. Day Two is a day of mini games and audience participation. An All Star Pro will select some audience members to participate in a mini game. The highlight of day two is the the 1v1 match between a pro and a "normal" Glory gamer. Day Three is the All Star Battle: 1v1, Group (3v3) and Team Battle (5v5) are the categories. That's the background for the setting of the OVA. I won't divulge anything else, you'll either have to read the WN (Chapters 300 through 343) or wait until April 27th.

BTW Team Excellent Era and the Happy Internet Cafe are located in "City H" which is actually the City of Hangzhou, China. There's a very cool YouTube video that visits the real life locations used in the donghua. Here's the link: https://youtu.be/iDD8odQvA4w.

You can tell another studio got their hands on it for the OVA since it really doesnt look as good as S1 but whatever. This prob is my fav arc from reading the webnovel.

Part 1 of the OVA is out! Here's the link: https://youtu.be/NQFL9B8IOsg. Right now it's still raw w/ no Eng subs but if you've read the WN you can figure out what's going on since the adaptation is very faithful. The animation looks really good. The new studio's animation seems even better than Season one's. There's probably going to be at least two more eps to the OVA.

Awesome! Thanks for the info.

English subs are out on the dark side if anyone wishes to watch it. Not that you should cause watching on the dark side it totally bad guys. Anyways currently 2 episodes are up. I personally like S1 character designs more, but it is what it is. Animation is still pretty good when it wants to be though.

The animation definitely has a different feel to it. Still good, just different.

Not sure I'll get used to Ye with so much facial expression, though.

Edit: Using ED 1 for OP 2 was rather interesting. If ED 2 is used for OP 3, then that would be a cool pattern. Especially if they held specific hints for the upcoming episode.

It's a different animation company doing the OVAs. For the 2nd season in 2019, it'll be the original animation company who'll be working on that one.

Happy it'll go back to the original animation studio. Colored-Pencil's work looks nice although a little flat (as in not enough depth). The biggest issue I have are the still frames in ep 2, which just kill me. Constant movement is understandably difficult to animate. Production I.G utilizes still frame movement often for their sports series, which also give viewers' eyes a break from the action. But there wasn't enough action during the climbing competition to warrant trimming that effort.

Season 1 had that over-the-top wow factor of action well choreographed and animated. Hope season 2 reaches and raises the bar next year.

The WN has a big international following and the Season 1 put Chinese animation on the map. Tencent Penguin Pictures, who owns the rights to the TKA donghua, has its own streaming service. Maybe if there's a deal for a Japanese dub release CR might be able to acquire it for the library just like Hitori No Shita: The Outcast, The SiIver Guardian or Fox Spirit Matchmaker. There's also all of that McDonald's product placement that will have to be dealt with. That stuff might need to be censored to avoid licensing complications.

Must say the big reveal in the third ep was quite exciting. Absolutely love the way Ye plays. And ending like that only makes it difficult to wait until next year.
