This show comparatively is a 7/10, but I would rate it around a 6. I think it does what it wants to well enough, and to see other anime in general fail, not because they could not live up to a seemingly original premise without cliches, but indulge in an already seen one without any effort at all, is depressing.

This show is perhaps the least of what I expect out of what should be a run of the mill CGDCT series, and run of the mill should just aim to do their show well, even with a lack of originality, or underused premises. Originality, whatever you want to call it, is not a death sentence. You can end up with shows like Ichigo Mashimaro or Non Non Biyori, or Gabriel Dropout, but Hinako Note and Gochiusa is what I expect at the very least. The scene between Yua and Hinako at the end of episode 6 was nothing new, but it was refreshing for a quality take on an otherwise humble trope use. Yua is to an extent reasonable enough to not fall within the status quo of bipolar tsundere, but I will have to see the next episode if it does stick, which honestly, makes me hopeful enough for the show as a whole.

That being said, I like Hinako Note more than Gochiusa, but it may be just how character designs hit me at those times in my life. Everyone in Gochiusa had the same small figure differentiated by their facial features, and the lack of visual appeal lead to disinterest.

So, that being said...

Azumanga Daoih=Ichigo Mashimaro=>Non Non Biyori=Gabriel Dropout>Squid Girl>Kiniro Mosaic>Hinako Note=>Gochiusa=Henneko>>Anne Happy>>>>>>>>Himouto! Umaru Chan.

Note the bold. That is where the line of acceptable turns in mediocre, accompanied by some gimmicks, such as abnormal quirks (Basically, Kuu-Chans eating papers everywhere) to absolute crap like Himouto!

I may have watched a great deal more, but Papa Iukoto, Oreimo, School Live, gave me different feels outside of CGDCTs.

I've only watched first two eps so far and I already really like this show.

The midcards are brilliant. The op is magic. The ed is good too. And the girls are adorable.

Right now it's a toss up between Kuina and Chiaki

Ok. All caught up. So adorable. I really like all the girls. The cast is so good. I've "awww"d so much. I can't wait to see what the rest of this season has to show.

Plus Kuina faces are the best.

The ONE HUGE turnoff for me was discovering that Ruriko Kuroyanagi was only 9 years old. I was thinking she was just short, but not that damn young. Who was the mangaka pandering to with this character design?

I knew she was a child actor but I figured she was maybe 13-14 and just short.

That's... not normal development for a 9 year old.

Thus concludes the beach episode. We got some lewd, we got some cuteness, but most importantly we got some fun.

I actually dropped the show cold turkey the moment they said her age.

Agreed. No 9 year old ever looked like that. Now if she was a high schooler then sure. When I was in high school, along with the rest of the dinosaurs; there were pretty female students who had developed quite nicely.

I didn't drop the show, but I was sorely tempted to do so. The characters stated age was a slap in the face and unsettling morally. Yeah, anime is a fantasy, but not for a damned 9 year old. I still wonder what the hell the Mangaka was thinking with this character design.

My "ignore anything anyone ever says" head canon is she's 13-14.

It might be best to try and think that way too. But I'd push it to 15-16.

I just happened to be unlucky. I tried to watch the newest episode on the phone but what happens, 15 seconds of that one scene at the end and then jumping instantly to next episode preview. Had to watch it on PS4, worked like it should be.

Nip cold strikes once again. For the most part I found this episode pretty funny.
