Yup. This one's a keeper. This series is not just about a kid looking for others to join his club. It also knows how to inject information and delectability to ease the viewers into the art of Kabuki. And damn, can't blame the teachers for bein' entranced with Kurogo's delivery of lines. That was awesome! XD

Now......... if only we can get Ebihara off his high horse to join the club, that'd be wonderful.

Kabukiku is an excellent example of how an anime can take an unusual subject like kabuki, while still mixing in some familiar anime tropes, and because it is well done, the result is appealing, enjoyable and interesting. Somehow everything comes together just right. Even the slightly oddball characters and their comedic moments. And I find myself learning an awful lot about kabuki at the same time.

This anime has elements of Silver Spoon the viewer will learn something from watching the show and kinda cheer the MC in moving forward to get the club going. 3 episodes in and I learned the face colors or stage make up representation not bad on info dump so far done right.

Ep 3

Kurosu proves his worth as MC by wowing the teachers with his knowledge of Benten Kozo which I'm guessing is famous in Kabuki. Hana-chan and Kaoru are definitely in...and we meet Maru. Only in anime would a cute girl with glasses be considered ugly because Animu.

It turns out Maru and the goofy Chuuni rockstar from ep 1 know each other. I sense love Also, HELL NAH HANA-CHAN AIN"T GAY as he tells Kurosu and Tonbo the story of how he went from dancer to adapting his macho act because he fell in love with a girl and she thought of him as a friend only. I bet that childhood friend of Hana's plays a role later on.

Meanwhile Yakumo Jr continues to turn up his nose and look like he Smells the Fart.

Kurosu sounds a lot like Horikawa from Touken Ranbu BTW...

I didn't know what I'd think, because I'm a CLAMP stan and wanted to see this mainly for the designs, but I'm definitely in for the long haul with this one. Not only Kabuki is interesting but Hana-chan and now Maru sold this to me.

This is a really good show! Makes me want to know more about kabuki, more than Shouwa did. Kabuki for dummies

Niwa - totally love him! His story about the gf was so sad. And his misunderstanding about Karou is amusing - he's a guy who ranks on the girl scale and she's a girl who ranks on the guy scale. And he hasn't been corrected yet. Upcoming surprise in store...

Maru - Short, fat girl totally sensitive about the issue. We'll probably see she can create the most beauty of all. Getting poetic, I think she might be a chrysalis that transforms the mundane into something beautiful. Looking forward to that.

I find myself looking forward to each episode more and more. Who would have thought that Kurosu wouldn't be able to act and would have severe stage fright as well. Poor boy! Lucky for him that Jophiel or whatever, who probably was the spy as well, stepped in and took over. But where did Jophiel get the costume? As far as I could tell Kurosu was still wearing his. So with our almost top crew together I wonder what will come next.

I'm finding that drama club president more than a little annoying. She seems to be such an utterly overly cliché character and really with a few screws loose as a result. She seriously acts as if Kaoru was a possession of the drama club that could be stolen and had no say of her own. So she harasses the kabuki club, but by extension thereby also Kaoru which to most of us sane people would be obviously bad. But the anime cliché not only has the idolizers believing they can dictate their idol's life and see nothing wrong in that, but also the idol calmly accepting being dictated to. Aside from stupid plot reasons, why isn't Kaoru simply telling the drama club she wants to do kabuki and to respect that?

Other than that, how could the drama club imagine that their performance was better? Faster no doubt, but it wasn't acted out in the least. Any actor would have known the moment the kabuki club actually acted it out that they had lost. More evidence of a screw loose. Besides I'd have thought an acting challenge would have been more fitting rather than who could speed recite a bit of text best as it doesn't prove much of anything dramatically.

Drama club president is a sore loser. I never understand when artist fight with each other hello its an art form support each other before all art forms are cut from all programs. My guess maybe with a small back ground story we might understand why drama club pres is so scary even adults have trouble with her behavior. I liked the performance at senior housing center and Merchant peddler performed as a single act play good idea very audience friendly including props and costume. Kabuki club is slowly getting more fans from school looking forward to next week.

Never liked that chick from the Drama club, as far back as when she was first introduced. And frankly, she deserves a piece of humble pie. Make it a plateful.

As for Shin, 'tis back to basics with the 'do.

This week:

After overhearing some students on how they didn't quite grasp kabuki after seeing the nursing home performance(they're groupies obviously there for Kaoru), Kuro spends most of this episode trying to think of a way to modernize kabuki so people can understand it in this day and age. Also, the gang comes up with stage names as we learn what an omuko does.. And we get another new member...or more a refugee from the Drama Club since the Drama Club prez basically treats the boy members like shit. Looks like next week she and Kaoru might make up though...

Yakumo Jr, meanwhile, gets told to lighten up. He too overhears someone diss Kabuki, but basically tells Kuro, when Kuro, goes to him for advice, that if people can't understand a 400 year old tradition, then they're dumb. Not the nicest thing to say...

Best part though was Shin's mom whooping his ass: "God's Hand has touched you" and then going all sweet to Kuro, "Are you a friend of Shin's?" Unfortunely this causes the club's Superstar to quit...and next week, I"m guessing we'll also get a look at why Shin's backstory.

Episode 6

Tough challenge havin' to edit the script to keep up with the times. But if it'll make the younger generation appreciate the story without sacrificing the level of performance, why not.

As for Ebihara, someone needs to pull out that 50-foot pole off that man's ass. Sheesh.
