I know I am an imouto loving onii chan, but....I fucking fucking fucking fucking FUCKING Hate Umaru. She is a character that is relatable mostly to teenagers I imagine, and for all the wrong reasons, as well as being an ideal character that frankly, I do not see why any moral upstanding adult would want to be.

She is perfect. Gets good grades, beautiful, popular, but at home, she is a lazy piece of shit who does not study, buy her own things, or even do her own homework. She sometimes throws tantrums, and I have to ask "Why is there anything to like about this character?" She is 16, but acts 4. She is a lazy shit that never gets comeuppance, any revelations that do not backfire because status quo, or even goddamn acknowledgement of her bad behavior. Her behavior is not the worst, but her personality is something we all likely encounter, and to me, her real life popularity symbolizes a great deal of things wrong with millennials in general. A great deal of millenials are lazy, but want the recognition. A great deal of millenials say they are entitled, but never provide adequate reasons why they should be. Umaru is basically an "ideal" teenagers want to aim for, but it is ultimately not something they should aim for, even if it were achievable. It is shameful.

Umaru is someone who is rewarded despite her immaturity and lazy neet habits, and with the occasional tantrum, she is an insufferable leech who is treated as a godsend by Kirie, and worthy rival by Tachibana, which makes it is so fucking annoying when no one except audience viewers realize what a terribly immature person she is, and what she should be. This is a huge difference between the similar Gabriel Dropout and this. Everyone in Umaru do not realize that Umaru is a lazy otaku neet, or the fact that the chibi is Umaru.

And her brother is so....enabling. He is whipped, for no better wording. He is Umaru's complete and utter bitch. He is annoyingly subservient and I just want to kill both of them.

So you are telling me to enjoy a show where someone is perfect, but a lazy asshole in secret to her brother? Really going to glorify the NEET lifestyle, are we not anime?

You may think I am taking this show seriously because it is a SOL, and I ask "why not?" I am suppose to like this character, goddamn it. What is she, fucking anime Caillou?

Oh god, so much this. I tried to watch this show but any moment with Umaru on the screen was too painful for me to stand.

Why do you think the reason why people watch this is because they want to be like her or relate to her?

I imagine it based on my own experiences and what I have seen from its fans. However, I feel younger people are more susceptible to this. This is not to say a carefree and lazy lifestyle is not desired by anyone older, but teenagers are allowed a lot more freedom in this regard, versus adults who do work out of necessity, like Tahei. Some teenagers have not grappled with the fact that adulthood is only years away, maybe sooner, something I understood to be important a bit later then I would like. The fact that she is an anime and gaming fan for a work whose demographic appeal uses all the common tropes for teenagers alongside being aimed at a group who likely does video game and read manga, and it is understandable. They would not make jokes concerning this if it went over the audiences head. I do not think this is a bad thing at all. However, this being a matter of being able to relate fails for a couple of reasons for me.

-I have grown past that stage in adolescence where I did not want to work (hard) but felt entitled solely on my natural talent that should be recognized.
-I want to indulge in a stress free lifestyle with anime and games at one point, but realize this leads nowhere if you do not invest actual work besides that.

This is not a case of Eric Cartman making Tenorman eat his mother or Roger killing 5 people over $20. The realism of Umaru's asshole nature is the only thing over the top, and I find it absolutely grating to hear her whine and throw temper tantrums. Making her turn into a literal chibi does not excuse the fact she is 16 and should be prepared to grapple on the precipice of adulthood, which is hinted at only to scale back to status quo.

However, this is only exacerbated by Taihei enabling and spoiling her, Kirie thinking she is lucky to have such a good and popular girl as a friend, and Tachibana thinking that such a girl is a great rival, when in reality she is a selfish prick.

For something I consider to be mainly a cute girls doing cute things series, it fails to make the lead likeable as both a character to be entertained or as a human being in general. The show's universe and its characters are written specifically to enable this lifestyle, and it is hard to ignore the aspects of real life in this regard when we consider a lot of millennials in the anime and manga community overly sympathize with a person.

This is the same problem I have with No Game No Life. Sora and Shiro are not cool, they are failures in our world. Despite this, instead of growing, they are moved to another world where this is not a problem for them, as the world works by relying on the very thing they are good at. There is no growth, but the creation of a universe to nullify these characters flaws.

I am not trying to criticize you or an entire in particular. I went from teenagers to "some millenials", considering that some people might like it for other reasons.

Yay love this show! Don't get the hate, she's not a supposed to be a role model lol. Anyone who would aspire to be like her is delusional as it would be impossible to be that lazy and selfish in private and as great as she is in public, it's just a "don't judge a book by its cover" comedy. And it's funny so calm down relax and enjoy it, not everything is supposed to be taken so seriously.
