Plot Summary

"I don't know how to give up on a dream..."

In pursuit of a high school student he admired, Yuta Hoshitani enrolled in the musical department of the prestigious music school Ayanagi Academy. He successfully completed the year-long enrollment test and, in his second year, finally became a student of the musical department... but a new trial awaited him right from the start of the new year!

First on the curriculum for second-year students is to act as support in the commemorative graduation performance put on by Otori and the other graduates. The traditional program, "Shadow & Lights," includes five roles created specifically for training second-years, so each year a team of five second-years has a chance to participate. It's a very coveted role among students of the musical department, as well as a chance to perform alongside the former leaders they admire.

Hoshitani and the rest of the 25 new students in the musical department are about to enter the audition for these second-year training roles, with their ticket to glory on the line!

Episode 1

This episode is basically introductions and re-introductions. Ageha is a pretty interesting guy seeing that he's a big fan of Haruto, and he's quite interested in his little brother to see if he is worthy of succeeding him. It's good to be back, though I'm not so sure how if I'll continue with this show seeing how packed this season is.

. . . . . . . . . yaaaaaaaaaay ✧・゚: *✧・゚:* *:・゚✧*:・゚✧ .

I really like Ageha. I mean. -black hair, purple eyes; -elegant-gothic aesthetic; - sweater. - that hip move <3<3

. . . . . . so he and the main one look sort of like Suzaku and Lelouch but like. I don't ship it. I still ship the main one with Otori.

. . . . . . . . . unpopular opinion: Otori is better than Victor.

Episode 2

And now auditions begin and per school tradition, it is being done as teams rather than individuals. Ageha sure is full of himself, all while Hoshitani's inexperience is starting to show and can't be covered up for much longer. And Inumine is late to practice, but he's someone who is always practicing by himself, so at least he isn't missing a beat. I remember just how lively and laid-back Inumine was and it's great to see that he hasn't changed. Anyway, the auditions are now about to really up the ante considering that three big shots from the theater industry have come to coach everybody up.

I really hope this Ageha guy can live up to the hype.

So far, the second season has been building up like a top talent. For what's worth, I still don't like him much.

. . . . . . . . . . . I love Ageha.

Also, he and the glasses guy have a really great prince/knight dynamic so far which is cute.

I love Ageha.

. . . . but I sort of hope they do break up the teams a bit, even though they're saying they won't...? Like, I think it takes the suspense out of it if the exact Team Otori gets the roles (which, you know they're not going to all lose. You know Hoshitani's going to get it because he's the main character and it's that kind of show. It would be really interesting if they did something else, but I doubt it...)

What if Haruto's brother quits and Ageha gets that role instead, but with the rest of Tema Otori?

Some more Tengenji focus would be nice, too...

Episode 3

Nayuki's sisters are back as their school is having its culture festival. Their class is having a play, but one of the actors had to pull out at the last minute due to a stomachache. So Hoshitani is asked to fill in, and seeing that he's lacking in skill that this would be a great opportunity to develop it. Hoshitani puts on one hell of a performance there, and it goes to show that when he awakens at the spur of the moment. That was really something that goes to show that Hoshitani has it in him when he's really motivated.

Hoshitani-kun sparkles on stage, he rises to the occasion Mr Clutch when stress is at max to me he solid and has great instincts not always something that can be taught. I hope Ageha takes notes and maybe learns some grace?

Ageha really is a prick. Hope his pathetic attempts at snobby mind games backfire.
Hoshitani will win with that smile that goes the extra mile!

(I'm probably the only one here to think Izumi's pick-up lines were adorable... Little kitten. You're such a flirt.)

Episode 4

Tengenji goes on stage to perform kabuki, and he's pretty noble in his performance, just like his family. In the meantime, the boys are practicing up for the play, and Hoshitani is having trouble getting the role of Lambert down. Tengenji sure has matured since the start of the show, and he serves as inspiration and advisor to Hoshitani seeing that he's having trouble trying to become somebody he isn't. So Tengenji takes matters into his hands by telling Hoshitani to be himself, and he will compensate for what he lacks.

I have a lot of thoughts, but not the energy to type them.

. . . . . . . . there's probably going to be a season 3, with Team Otori as the new Kao Council (in their third year), right? Narratively speaking, I mean.

I'm loving season 2 so far. Just wondering why it seems the former Kao Council seems to only have 4 members? I thought there should be five like the current graduating one...

Also, I dunno how to feel about Ageha exactly but he's a tad creepy with his Haruto-obsession. Like, he's kind of similar with Hoshitani but cranked up to eleven.

Tengenji changed a lot from when I first saw him in season 1. Actually, the whole of Team Ootori are friendlier with each other and they also care about each other more. They knew about Kaito's issue with being compared to his brother and Tengenji, Nayuki and Hoshitani had tried to stop or change the subject whenever Ageha talks to Kaito regarding Haruto. Also, Tengenji getting mad at Ageha ignoring Hoshitani because it's rude (and Hoshitani mentioning that Tengenji had been like that, too) was funny and nice as it showed he really had changed.

Also, the ancients singing their version of the Kao Council song. (Again, why just 4?)

For the latest episode, I wonder how Tengenji's elbow being hurt (it seems) will affect the performances. I'm kind of nervous for him now. It's also nice that he encouraged Hoshitani at the end and said he'd win for the team... which scares me more because in other shows, saying that usually ends with disaster.

First I admit I'n not the greatest fan of these type of shows but after 4 episodes it struck me that quite a few of those musical numbers were there with little context, unlike season 1 where at least most of the musical scenes had a reason in the storyline for popping up. I might appreciate these musical interludes more if I actually enjoyed the music but in most cases I find it pretty awful and skip them.

About the story, for several episodes we've been shown that Ageha knows the part to a T as done by Haruto. But I hope in the end he doesn't get the part exactly for that reason. They are supposed to be learning how to make a part their own and not a perfect version and copy of how someone else did it. What in the end Ageha is acting is the part of Haruto playing the part of Lambert's Shadow, without ever thinking about how he himself would play the part. So just about anybody else besides him should get it. Especially as those 3 instructors seemed to recognize the what was going on.
