I think definetely the series is really good, I didnt pay attention to the harem aspect of it because I was too engaged in the story, and i enjoyed all arcs equally, I think people sometimes complain wayy too much. But yea the movie, id give a 7, I think maybe my enjoyment was less because I had this guy in front of me who kept blocking my view with his big head so I had to view the movie sideways lol.

Aw man that sucks! D: I really hate when that happens in the theater, you pay more attention getting comfortable you can't really immerse yourself in the movie. Honestly I think people crap on Fairy Dance arc too much, but I actually like it more than Aincrad. xD The fight with Sugou was pretty intense, and then just plain sad at the very end lol.

Yes whats the deal? I loved fairy dance specially because flying around with their new wings seemed so fun lol, and I felt it was as serious as the first arc, with Asuna being kidnapped and being forced to marry this awful guy ,then gun gale was interesting too cos it was a whole new setting and mothers rosario, made me cry a lot, very very emotional and sad. Btw is the alicization novel really good?

I think since there was no imminent danger involved it didn't feel as intense to viewers like Aincrad was, but since Suguha became one of my favorites I really found myself loving that arc! AND OH YES. Alicization is absolutely fantastic, it blows every arc out of the water since its like 5x longer than the others and has tons of fun and interesting characters! It starts off kinda slow, but towards the end of volume 11 it really starts to pick up and doesn't stop for a single second.

I could rave about Alicization all day, but you should really check it out!

SAO was the first light novel series I ever read. A friend I knew IRL built it up to be the best thing since sliced bread. Since I knew of him to like action-based stories, I thought I could get into it. When I started to read it, I intentionally refused to look at abec's art because I wanted to picture everything fresh from my mind my own way.

Since the moment Asuna hesitated to finish off that one guy back in the first novel, I started to doubt the series.

Despite all the problems with ALO and GGO and Asuna and Kirito and Yui and Kirito and the entire eight novel and the STL technology from the ninth novel that I don't even WANT to get into a discussion about, I had given it the benefit of the doubt. Shortly thereafter, I watched Mother's Basement's videos which confirmed my doubts and I now officially dislike the series. I keep my copies of books 5-9 in my room in shame.

I'm under the impression that light novels in general wouldn't ever have been released in North America without the anime's presence, even if it made an already imperfect series even worse, so I at least gotta give A1 my regards. But that doesn't change how I feel about it.

The good parts are okay, and the bad parts are fucking horrible. The mix of those two isn't as in favor of the former as it should be. Abridged is better in every way.

The abridged parody by SWE is better than the actual anime which will always remind me of the state of the anime industry at the moment.

Actually I really enjoyed it. It was fun kinda, and before folks get critical of the story too much, remember it's a 「少年」or boys 8-14歳 is the target audience. There was a lot of stretching between story arcs but otherwise a solid series. Also found an interactive day planner for android with Asuna's VO for different functions and is complete with varying levels of moe attire. Website: http://mezamane.com/asuna/ just so your aware the menu displays in English but Asuna only speaks in Japanese.

Aincrad was great. Kirito x Asuna + Yui as daughter forever!

I like to pretend the Alfheim arc never happened. So, so many things wrong with it...

Gun gale was okay. Sinon was pretty cool, but it would've been a whole lot better if they didn't try to shove her into a romance with Kirito and had Asuna more involved. The ending was also a little disappointing, as it turned out to be a relatively small-scale thing that probably would've eventually been resolved by authorities without intervention by Kirito, although Sinon would've fallen victim.

Mother's rosario was a pretty good/great comeback. Hoping movie / new arcs will continue the trend of redemption from Alfheim.

It's a serviceable and enjoyable show that gets too much hate from elitists and too much love from the masses.

I really liked the Aincrad arc. SAO was the first show from that genre that I watched and I thought it was super cool :D. Has it really been around for five years? o.o

When the anime first started airing, I was a huge fan of it. The aspects about survival and the fact that you actually die if you die in the game, how this fact affected the players, it was good, very good. Then those time skips came. Story advanced 6 months between 2 episodes and everything started to go downhill from there on. They started introducing woman after woman, converted our protagonist from the survivalist into a OP/immortal/womanizer. Hell he even broke the game's only rule and the anime's main selling point (in my opinion), he didn't actually die when he died in the game at the end of the first part. Instead, he survived because even the maker of the game came to like him...

It is just, there were so many things they could showcase in the Sword Art Online arc. Instead they showcased how Kirito seduced this girl, how he collected that flower, while placing months long time-jumps between episodes, rushing the final battle and finishing the arc. Then that second arc came...

Ryouhi already summarized what happened in the second arc, so I am not going to write it again. Just one sentence, it was extremely bad and boring.

Simply put, the anime and its story had so much potential, it could very well become a masterpiece, but they all threw it into the garbage, and gave us the Sword Art Online series we know today, and it is disappointing.
