So I've met quite a few people now that need white noise when they go to bed.

To me that is the strangest thing, like, so you NEED noise to sleep? Isn't it the opposite usually?

Sorry, I'm just baffled by this. Anyone else relate?

(No offense to those that do listen to fans at night, I'm just curious to hear your opinions)

Fuck at first I thought you were joking.

I don't use fans at night to listen to them, I use them to fucking cool off when I'm sweating up an ocean. I never knew people listened to fans at night to fall asleep.

If someone needs noise don't they listen to peaceful ocean noises? Or rainforest critter noises like birds and rain and wind? Never heard of someone who enjoys the static noise that a fan makes to help them fall asleep.

When I visit my family in Maine I sleep with the windows open to hear the ocean, same with when its raining.

In fact, I hate using the fan cause it's so damn noisy, I just need the cool breeze

I always have a fan running in my room. Generally because it is always hot af in my room. I can sleep w/ or w/o white noise, though I am far more used to white noise than w/o.

I prefer noise when studying too.

I sleep with a fan on usually. It's mostly because that's how I was raised cause my parents do it too. I can go to sleep without it but it just takes a little longer. It's hard to describe really but I suppose I'm just used to it and it gives me some comfort.

I deal with tinnitus so white noise masking helps me with my sleep. The sound of a fan just happens to be my choice. I think it's more manageable for others than loud background tv noise like a friend of mine uses.

Light background noise does help me sleep. If I'm trying to sleep and there is no sound AT ALL, my anxiety starts spiking for no apparent reason. Too much noise is obviously counter-productive though.

I guess it just depends on the person.

I always sleep with a fan on, kinda hard to fall asleep to tinnitus (and hearing my heartbeat in one ear occasionally) so the fan helps get my mind off of those two things I mentioned.

I literally need a fan on me lol
I hve one blowing on me every month, every day of the year even winter, and no I don't turn the heat on
its not so much the noise I need , well it wasn't in the beginning , now it is , but my body stays hot, for some reason it doesn't regulate tempature properly

Ideally, I like dead silence; however, I'll tolerate fans whenever the weather is stifling. Plus, every once in a blue moon, the natural ambience of a quiet room is irritating. I occasionally get too fixated on the slightest sounds. Whenever that happens, I'll snap myself out of it by turning on a fan, in order to trick my subconscious into ignoring random background noises.

I have grown to the point where, without a fan, I have difficulty falling asleep.

I need some type of noise. The sound of the fan definitely helps me sleep because pure silence to me is too unsettling. A lot of times though, just the fan isn't enough and I can only fall asleep with music playing or with the tv turned on.

The wife & I prefer The Weather Channel or on-air music versus dead silence account of her snoring. If I awaken at any time from REM sleep account her noise I have to vacate bedroom. Sometimes I can get her silence if I just nudge her but majority of time it's to no avail and I just vacate to other bedroom.

Fans are best at blowing off bugs.
