i listen to asmr to sleep, but i never realized people used white noise for that
many people have different things that make them comfortable, i mean babies go to sleep/calm down with white noise?
i see no difference, like i can't go to sleep easily without someone just rambling or whispering beside me

I need white noise to sleep, so I use a fan. Sometimes the WEIRDEST things will wake me up. One night the water softener started at like 2 in the morning. Even though my room is far away from the garage, I could STILL hear it grinding the salt or whatever the pellets are made of and it was SUPER ANNOYING. Also, my parents are SUPER EARLY type people. I'm a night owl. Their bathroom happens to be behind my bedroom wall. Sometimes I hear the shower or if a toilet is flushed. If a fan is going, most of the time I can sleep through it.

As a side note: One time, there was a power outage at like 2 or 3 in the morning. I woke up BECAUSE OF THE SILENCE. Yes, the power went out and the first thing I noticed was the SILENCE, and NOT the total darkness. THAT'S how light of a sleeper I can be! I also like the benefit of not waking up all sweaty at 4 in the morning. Fans keep me cool, yay!

So there's a variety of reasons why I sleep with a fan on, but it's mainly to drown out other noise whether it be from normal house noises to other family members doing whatever.

I was kinda confused when I read the title of this thread but it makes sense now. I'm not a person that NEEDS noise to sleep, but having a bit of noise definitely helps me sleep. Just preference for some. I just put on headphones and sleep with whatever plays with those on. They fall off after a while so no worries about them breaking.

I usually have a fan going in the summer to keep air moving but that's about it.

I can sleep through most of everything to be honest, so I don't need it.

I use to need a fan to sleep, because I could concentrate better, but now silence is bliss, and I don't know why I ever used a fan.

Now if it's raining and storming outside, that's the best white noise

Fans are the best. Been sleeping with one since I was probably 10 years old.

My girlfriend found it a little odd at first, but now she's pretty reliant on them too.

Our street has a lot of traffic, even at night. And the weather is often hot. Started using a fan in the window just to keep cool, but then discovered that the quiet drone of the fan also helped mask the traffic noise and made for better sleep. Now I'll even use it during the winter when the window is closed. It also circulates the air, keeps the coverlet from getting musty.

I don't really have a fan in my room right now. In middle school though, I did have a fan in my bedroom and kept it on when I slept. I didn't mind the noise. It was really a matter of me keeping cool. All that matters to me when I sleep is that I sleep in total darkness. If the fan was on and I wasn't getting cooler I'd probably turn it off.

Don't we all use fans for that reason?

I use a fan to keep me cool. I hate sweating while I am sleeping. It will keep me up. I listen to music when I am going to sleep to keep the noises out. When I am asleep something big and loud has to happen to wake me up.
