I'll start out by stating that I've read a few posts on either the CR forum, reddit, or other communities asking this very same question, but the answers provided were either not applicable to my situation, not viable anymore, or just left open. So I will ask for my specific case: how do I get crunchyroll premium without ownership or a credit card in the Netherlands?

I'm aware that payment is available through paypal, but as mentioned in other posts, this also asks for a credit card. I have sufficient balance on my paypal account and have used it many times by manually charging it through iDeal. I am unfortunately very strict in my intention not to link my bank account directly to paypal on the off chance that it will let me circumvent credit card registration, because this will create an additional source to get instant access to all my money, should my account get hacked or a leak in paypal gets exploited.
I've also tried buying a one-time premium gift instead of premium through recurring payment, but this ends up with the exact same results.

Is there any way I have not tried yet to obtain premium membership? Or are there any plans or ways for me to encourage plans to add more payment methods like iDeal?

The only way to get PayPal working is by adding your iDeal card as payment source on PayPal. PayPal does not allow recurring payments to be made from accounts that do not have a debit card (iDeal in your case) or credit card added to it. This is not something we are enforcing, this is a general requirement by PayPal.

As for PayPal safety, have you considered enabling 2-factor authentication? Then an intruder would require both access to your mobile phone/email account in addition to knowing your password.

I'm aware that for recurring payments paypal asks for a credit card, but as I mentioned: it also requires one for one-time purchases like gifting premium.

As for the 2-factor authentication, I assume you are referring to a verification code being sent to your phone whenever you make a purchase? I have that active now, but I was under the impression that paypal used that as a temporary solution or substitute for users who did not have a bank account or credit card linked, and they would skip that once a secure link was created for convenience reasons. I will have to check if that's really the case. If the settings remain that I need to manually verify every purchase with a verification code, it would be a viable, secure payment method for me. Thank you very much for your response!

Sadly the store purchases do not work as one time payment for us, as our PayPal profile is primarily set up for recurring payments. This means that even for single payment PayPal will check for a card in connection with our account. Sorry about that.

No, the 2-factor authentication is a security feature generally available in PayPal. It's very much advised for everyone to use it.

I'm happy to report that after being able to link my bank account to my paypal (which took a few days), I can indeed bypass the credit card requirement and have purchased my CR premium. Again, thank you for your help in this matter
