Post Reply Driving Over The Speed Limit
Posted 5/9/17
I just go the speed limit. I'll get where I'm going when I get there, and I'm doing so in a 2000 some odd pound death machine; so I don't much feel the need to push beyond what's been advised for a given road. When it rains or snows; I drop 5-15 miles depending on the condition.

This topic still going?! =0

Today and yesterday I was thinking about this discussion and did went over 5 to 10 miles per hour on highway.. so the speed limits was 60, went about 75, I noticed semi-truck was next to me going faster! XD

Of course I did chicken out and reduce the speed down to 63 due to fear of getting ticket! XD

I don't typically go more than 15 mph over the speed limit. Generally, on the way back and forth from work I set my cruise control at 80 (65 mph posted), if traffic isn't slowing me to less than that.

Those are called "speed traps" it's how 95% of the piddly smalltowns pay for their donuts and squad cars. Also why in the last fifteen years that I've lived in south texas, six new schools (that I know of) have been built in various towns and counties surrounding me, ALL of them DIRECTLY on a major highway, (and subsequently a crop of 20mph speed zones have popped up like bad acne in the middle of a long stretch of 75mph highway. *sighs*

I never speed, if I can help it. I will "go with the flow" as my dad calls it, since it's safer to go the general speed all the other cars around you are going (that way you don't get bumper biters, or eat someone elses rear fender), but usually I limit myself to 5mph above the speed limit. I mean, frankly, all our roads around here are 65/60 mph highway, and 35mph residential. plenty fast for getting anywhere you want, and the exponential increase in danger (both financial if you get ticketed, or health (and financial) if you cause an accident) that comes with speeding isn't worth the 5-10 seconds you get to your destination faster.

Btw, I was told by a friend who has a son who gets speeding tickets almost every week (don't ask me how), but here in texas it's written on the tickets they give you that there is a 3.25% allowance before they can ticket you. so at 60mph you can technically go 61.95mph and they can't ticket you :3
