Post something you are working on or something that you don't know why it looks strange. Then someone else downloads your image and adds notes on what you could do, then you do it

The idea is to get everyone better by showing them what they should do. Sometimes just a paragraph of advice is too vague. What about the anatomy is wonky? How do you think the proportions are supposed to look? Whats wrong with the perspective? So many questions can be answered by letting someone doodle on your work.

Something like this but the images are separated.

First one is your original post,
the second is someone else's notes on your work
and the last is you doing their advice.

(her shirt looks like a plastic garbage bag to me, I do not know how to show textures in illustration)

I'll start off by posting something I made that generally looks bad to me and I don't know why or what I could do to save it.

I had to play around with the image a bit to figure out what to change, so I figure I might as well post my "edit" alongside my notes:

Changes made:
-Moved head over to the right a bit
-Changed the shape of the lower half of the skull
-Moved the left ear (thats anatomic position, so the one on the right in the picture) to the left so it matches the new skull lines
-Redid the eyes so they are smaller and more precisely positioned
-Retraced the hair outline to more closely match the skull shape and to give it more interesting lines above the shoulders
-Shrunk the lower half of the body a bit

Other changes that could be made:
-The bones are all very pointy and the anatomy may be a bit too skeletal.
-Shading on the right arm (that would be the one on the left in the picture) could be redone
-Frills could be shaded with more texture instead of a gradient

I don't have any drawings on hand right now but I'll try to get one this weekend!

Okay, so I drew this pretty quickly but got stuck on the eyes. I couldn't get them right no matter what I did. Any suggestions?

oh thanks for the insight, I'll try to do the things suggested but you know how it goes with time management and art.

I don't know if you can see my notes.

Overall I think its a quick sketch you did. I don't know if you meant to not add eyebrows but I think your going for a angry expression, idk.

Anyway, if your going for style you can see what some pro did for style before making something up.

Good luck

I've been working on it a bit since I posted and made most of the changes you suggested I think. Thanks for reminding me how that neck muscle works. I don't know how I screwed that one up so bad.

As for the expression, I'm going for "prostitute faking it".

Still can't really figure out the eyes. Its not a style thing. I think it might be I drew the perspective on one of the eyes wrong and its throwing me off. I raised one of them a few pixels and it looks a little better, and the rest of the stuff I added makes it so you can't really notice it as much.

You've spotted the perspective being off on the eye, so yeah, just something to watch out for. If her head is tilted into a slight 3/4 view like that, less of her right side will be visible, so you can shave a little more off on that side and make the eye shorter to fit. The mouth is also affected in a similar way.

Other than that, her neck is super long and skinny, so if you're going for a realistic-ish look, I'd drop the height of it and add some more muscle around the bottom.

Also maybe think about defining the point where her hair is coming from. Even if you don't want to get bogged down in drawing loads of individual strands, it'll look more natural if you tell the viewer where it's flowing out from.

Someone else post the next one, I've got nothing right now.

Edit: Can't upload images straight to the forum, apparently.

I kinda redid alot of things but I did take the advice into account, I moved her head to the right and changed the shape and proportions so that It wasn't so oblong and egg like.

I pretty much redrew the right arm, head, feathers, hair, hands and feet. Also git rid of all the shading because at the time I made it overly complicated and I had no idea where my light source was. Plus I've never really drawn backgrounds much so I'll need to work on that.
I wanted to copy the style of the show ( I wanna be able to follow different body models because I want to do fan animations soon)

I don't know if it comes across but I wanted her to be completely frazzled because how is a harpy supposed to play a guitar when they don't even have fingers?!

It's not finished btw, it took a lot longer than I thought, to draw all those feathers and try to add texture to the talons

I'm just trying to get people to show their practice stuff and we learn through communication. Doesn't matter skill level or what not.

After all, other people will see things wrong that you might not know about, and communication is as important as practice.
