Episode 1

And so, the prequel begins with Umataro and Hiroshi building what would become Astro Boy while in grad school. Robots didn't have minds of their own, but those two changed that as the robot in the turtle costume acted to save the day and prevent an explosion that would have killed lots of people. Interesting start this show is off too, but at the same time I just don't feel invested in this show.

I really, really liked this!!
I'm excited to see more and I hope it turns out well.
I've been fascinated by Dr. Tenma as a character since reading Pluto, but since stories about Astro Boy are usually about Astro, we don't really delve into Dr. Tenma and Professor Ochanomizu much.

Normally the view we get of him is as a tragic, haunted character who made a lot of bad choices, so seeing him so young and cheerful is strange, but gratifying. Like a really, really good fanfiction. I really love how goofy the duo is.

The part where A106 rips off the costume and stretches out his hand, ready to punch a hole through the water tower is so cool!!
jfieoajfiaoj I'm so excited for this show. I can't wait to see more.

The first episode was actually pretty interesting. OP song has a stylish feel to it while we learn that the current timeline/setting is in the aftermath of a disaster.

Robotic technology seems to be a driven force for the storytelling.
One of the main robots has an unique look to it too.

Only thing that bothered me a bit is Hiroshi's character design...mainly the big nose which is slightly distracting. Otherwise, I think this show has a LOT of potential.

Great introductory episode premiere about the world of robotic technology and the prototype robot Atom. We are seeing Osamu Tezuka on a new light for fans who never knew his brilliant work on Astro Boy

Knowing virtually nothing about the ASTRO Boy franchise other than its being a founding classic, Atom is off to a fun start. The art is and interesting blend of modern and retro.

Ep 1

I had no idea this show was related to the Astro Boy franchise until after watching the episode and then coming to the thread. Even for a prologue of sorts I found it very easy to understand and get into. I really liked the OP and art style. A106 has a slick design and is obviously quite powerful too. Pretty solid way to start the show overall. I have no idea where the plot ultimately goes, seeing as I've never watched any of the original Astro Boy, but I'm liking it so far.

Look at these nerds.

Well, Episode 2 is finally up, some weird glitch at first appearance, made me wait about another half-hour though, so only 5 1/2 hours later than stated...

Even the two "geniuses" don't fully realize what they have created (yet?), but Ran does.

The episode was late to being uploaded, and when it did get uploaded it didn't load. Now it's working properly.

Episode 2

Here comes Ran, who is quite interested in the research those two nerds are doing, and while that's going on, she is targeted by a robotic hitman who is out to get Astro, currently known as Six. Once again, Astro uses his heart to protect Ran. While that is going on, Umataro totally botches the presentation and now they are running out of money for their research. Ran sure did make her presence known, all while there's that hitman that is out to smash Astro as that lady controlling it is up to something,

lol Hiroshi, watch out! Your younger sister has a crush on your robot.

From the last two episodes, what I've managed to gather is that the animation isn't bad, but it's not quite flashy either. Bit disappointed with the portrayal of the fight. I'm still hoping we reach the cool action scenes the OP promised us by the end.

Also, damn the crazy blonde lady. It's one thing to be targeting Six, but that robot was aiming to kill Ran. She really could have been seriously injured if Umataro didn't install rocket arms in Six. Or like, if they forgot to plug him in and he didn't have enough battery at the time. I don't know if she's going to be a villain or a benefactor, but there's seriously something loose in her head.

Also, what exactly is Six's name? Official sources say A106, or A-Ten-Six, or just Six. But people keep calling him Atom or Astro?? I thought Atom was this dude:

If that's the case, Atom definitely doesn't exist yet. He's a robot created decades in the future to replace Umataro's son, and is most definitely a different robot. Does he get recycled into Atom later? I haven't read the manga past what occurred in the second episode, so I really don't know where Six is going, or how this leads up to the main series.

Also totally unrelated to the plot, but I'm enjoying how every time Umataro is introduced in an episode, he's naked.

Astro Boy (that's what I wish to call him because its the name I grew up calling him and just a generally cooler and more accurate name all around) is not going to appear at any point in this show, just letting you and everyone know. Six is not Astro and Six does not get recycled into Astro at least not without completely breaking continuity because the whole thing about Astro was that he was a one of a kind revolutionary kind of robot and everyone thought Tenma was crazy for trying to build him because of how sheerly unprecedented a robot with that degree of human complexity was at the time.

On that note, how is this series so far? I thought the first episode was fine but this whole premise seems like it should be more interesting than it ends up being. Maybe its just because of how tensionless prequels are by default but I kept feeling like I should be more engaged in the progress of the robot's construction which admittedly wasnt shown off as much as it should have been I feel. Also why the hell did they make Six put out an electrical fire by dousing the area in water when the area contained a crowd full of people? I thought they were scientists. That stuff really gets on my nerves. Does it get better after episode 1?

Thanks for the clarification haha!

And that's what I'm holding out for as well. I don't know whether the show's going to be something I enjoy after all's said and done, but I'm hoping it's good. I could probably answer this really quickly by reading the manga, but I kind of enjoy the weekly wait.
