Granted conservatives are also the most popular party in Parliament as well, so its like Republicans needing the Tea Party to win majority in Congress.

Yes, they took a really bad hit though. Usually when the electorate sends you that kind of message your first thought isn't "Well, lets do the same thing again but worse". Especially with DUP, who make the Tea Party look like a bunch of slightly irate cosplayers. Outside of their die hard holes the DUP are pretty controversial and certainly aren't going to fly with the general public.
