Reminds me of a discussion from earlier about how Spongebob Squarepants was capable of drinking a glass of water or using water while being completely submerged.

Did anyone bring up the visual gag of Mr. Krabs handing him an "empty" glass of "water" to drink before making a trek to the surface in one episode?

That's the writers saying fuck ya'll theories. lol

Yes. But, they have showers and baths. The only thing I could think of was the whole "goo lagoon" bit. Maybe, their version of water is goop.

Watch Martian Successor Nadesico (if you can find a legal source for it at the moment). The series is a sci-fi comedy with one of the running gags being an obsession of certain otaku characters with an anime series called Gekigengar III (a parody of the real Getter Robo series). I think anyone interested in this topic will like the recap episode where the creators decided to twist things round by having the Gekigengar characters watching Martian Successor Nadesico.

Anime characters watching an anime with characters watching the original anime.

I don't dare ask what a "9" sees when they watch anime.

I think it might be something like this:

EDIT: Actually, I think that's still only an 8. I'm not sure I've ever seen anything bigger in an actual show.

It's still anime. I mean they do refer to it as anime just like we do.

What is so hard about this? Anime is still anime. Haven't you watch show like Shirobako.

It all depends on perspective. What is it to the perspective of the viewer?

Example: I find many horror movies to be more funny the horror. They may be labeled by someone as horror, but to me they are comedy.

What any given person considers anime is based on their personal perspective.

What is the difference between anime and simply a cartoon?

What is the difference between manga and simply a comic?

Something is anime only if the person watching it believes it to be anime. From the perspective of a character in an anime, the other characters are part of their "real" life. From our perspective, they and the other characters are anime. The anime character watching an anime considers it to be anime, because that anime within an anime is part of an anime we are watching it is still anime by our perspective. Similarly an anime character watching a live performance considers it a live performance, but we would still also consider it anime as it is part of the anime we are watching.

When talking about and observer observing another observer there are always two perspectives. The answer is dependent solely on which observer is being referenced.

The anime watcher was watching the anime character watch an anime within the anime that the anime watcher was watching.

(British Nobleman Voice)

We ask only the most philosophical questions here in the Crunchyroll Forums.

Actually, they probably have anime the same as we do. The term anime is just Japanese animation. I see no reason why it has to change just because it is in an animated show.

Haha, I think it's from the episode, "The Great Divide." Aang is starving, and sees a pie or something.

It is regular tv for them right? They don't have non-animated stuff so everything they watch is anime.

This question came up one day while I was watching anime...
If the people in anime watch anime, then what is their definition of anime?
This is too much to wrap my head around, and I can't seem to express excactly what I think on this matter...
I hope at least someone else can...

Pretty sure Genshiken answered this question already.

The same logic has CGI realistic humans.
