It actually seems to be a bit better this weekend. Normally around this time the whole site would just not load anything at all, so maybe they are making some headway on the fixes they discussed here: https://medium.com/ellation-tech/stabilizing-improving-crunchyroll-service-c44c53789e86

I noticed its no longer slow. Its like I'm only one on here. I noticed this only happen during peak hours and weekend. Reason I got upset is because I just wrote looong email and hit sent, it show long loading time and than got to error page, hit back hoping I still have text in the email, but show empty.. so had to re-do them again. Happen few time heh. XD

Sadly, moving a platform like this to a modern infrastructure is a massive undertaking that the CR Infrastructure team has likely not had the time, talent, or budget they've needed for. Luckily, http://vrv.co/crunchyroll is built on a much better architecture, and should be fairly stable (I've noticed that when CR is down, VRV is still fine).

I'm sure there are a number of folks on the CR side that were very excited when VRV started coming together, as the goal will likely be to phase out CR entirely. This is a huge win for them, as they won't have to waste time backporting the massive CR infrastructure, since VRV is the result of a solid redesign.

Personally, I think VRV is great, and a great way to move into modern content delivery architecture. Plus the UI was built on React, which is nice. The API, while undocumented, is pretty clean, too - It wouldn't be tough to build your own client if you wanted.

VRV is better because it uses AWS as opposed to local servers, which can be easily overwhelmed by online traffic.
in other words, we should really thank Amazon for this.
