I'm not trying to be a pain with my first post, but I got a premium membership because I love manga and want to read licensed manga legitimately so I can support the people who put hard work into making it. However, I was unpleasantly surprised to find that your web-based manga reader is practically unusable. Seriously, it's so bad it makes me want to go read manga at sites of questionable legitimacy even though I have a paid subscription here.

Something as fundamental as page turning doesn't work as expected. The web viewer almost always skips the last couple pages of every chapter and sometimes the first page of the next chapter. It also forces me out of fullscreen for no reason between every chapter. God forbid I try to scroll the page up or down with my touchpad, as instead of the picture scrolling, I end up skipping a dozen pages in a random direction.

There's also no way to bookmark my progress, save/queue/manage the series I'm reading, check for updates, etc. Things you find on literally every other manga site on the internet. So unless I'm supposed to constantly make and delete dozens of browser bookmarks (I won't), or write down my progress in each manga, manually search for what I want to read every time I visit your site, then manually navigate to where I left off (I won't do that either), I'm pretty much left with no choice except to go to another site. I can queue and manage the anime I watch here, why can't I do the same for manga? It makes no sense.

I also want to complain about the required use of Flash, but I think the topic has been beaten to death in other threads. It should be sufficient to say that Flash is a huge security risk, nobody supports its use any more, most major OSs and browsers disable it by default, and the DRM doesn't prevent piracy.

I'm sorry that this is written in an angry tone, partially because as I was writing it your entire content delivery capability crashed yet again (how can this happen so often on such a major paid site??), but my intent here is to help you improve your site usability and customer experience.

The manga apps have bookmark/favorites lists. The reason you forced out of fullscreen between chapters is because a new instance of the Flash player needs to be loaded with the next chapter's pages.

Thanks for the help. I have tried the app on my phone. It works fine on the go, but I shouldn't have to set aside my 15" screen at home and use a 5" one just to get basic functionality.

Since I wrote my post I've read some other threads and found out that many other people have complained about the same thing, and that the premium+ members get to use a different reader that isn't flash-based and does have these missing features. But regular premium users can't use it because it's "beta". Even though it's been available as "beta" for well over a year now. So basically I'd have to nearly double what I pay for the privilege of using a reader that isn't gimped, but I assume none of the extra fees actually go to the manga writers.

The fact that many other users also have the same complaints, and that crunchyroll hasn't made any indications they'll ever take the new reader out of beta, makes me think it's an effort to push people to pay more for the premium+ membership. It's fine if that's their business model and they're upfront about it, but hiding it behind the guise of beta software feels disingenuous.

Manga is literally down more than it is up. I'm so sick of seeing maneki neko telling me a bunch of crappy ninja are (not actually) fixing the problem. Could you please do something so I can actually read the manga I'm paying for? Thanks.

Edit: I can't even cancel my subscription without Mr. Neko telling me there's an error.....

Glad to hear I'm not the only one having problems. On another note, I was complaining about this earlier, but it seems like CR keeps adding onto the same series instead of adding new ones. But honestly, the IOS app worked for about 2 days before reverting back to the glitchy unloaded homepage for me. I wish CR would listen more to their paying members(shall I bring up the Anime Awards as an example?).

Bro, welcome to the club. I made a thread about this a little while ago as well:
http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-983175/crs-terrible-manga-reader-discussion-grievances-and-suggestions

No one from Crunchyroll's tech team really make any comments about the downfalls of the site, I rarely see them even make comments in the support sections. Mods do, but they're not really part of the paid staff. Crunchyroll has barely updated this site in the last like 4-5 years. I feel like they're so busy with other things like all the deals they've made with other companies, the CR Expo, creating new original content, licensing, etc. that they've completely neglected the site itself. It's in dire need of a make over and there's barely been any change.

I've been hearing about a potential site make over for like a year and a half now, but nothing is changing. I've complained to the support via email a couple times before and they assure me that they're working on issues, but basically nothing changes and they never make an official statement that they're working to improve things. The biggest thing that they've done is make the beta HTML5 player, but that's only from premium+ users (which I used to be, but dropped it since it's really not worth the price).

Crunchyroll needs to get their web engineers and start fixing the many issues of this site, including the manga reader which is laughably bad. You know you have a problem when Fakku has a WAY better manga reader than Crunchyroll. The manga reader has literally stayed the exact same since it's been launched. No updates, no nothing. That's a huge problem. All the features that are on the mobile should be on the web version, and the mobile app isn't even perfect, it crashes all the time for me. It's really a shame, CR is making it hard to read these manga legitimately.

I have a suspicion that when they implement the HTML5 player (which is an eventual must at this point with the drop dead date for Flash), that it will be accompanied by a complete site overhaul. That would go a bit toward explaining why they are not even fixing minor things as the thought process would likely be, "Why fix something we are just going to replace?".

I also predict that if that prediction of mine is true, the new site will have its own share of problems, despite how good it might appear to be "on paper".

That'd make a lot of sense. I could see them not wanting to pull a Funimation and announce the new site and continue to delay it, but the very least it'd be nice if they could make an official statement that it's in the works. I'm hoping that the CR Expo will have a lot of these announcements, I mean, what better time to announce that then there? Also they want to do downloading videos like Amazon right? It'd make sense if that was apart of the new site.

And definitely I bet it will, I mean look at all the problems Funimation had when it launched the new site. The new apps for the PS4 are still a major pain to use (subtitles are all screwed up!). But at least once they launch the new site they can fix minor things as they come by, like what MAL has been doing since they had their big overhaul.

Still, they really need to fix their manga reader. The new one in beta is alright, but it's so bare bones and lacks all the features that are other fan/illegal sites have and certainly doesn't have the functionality of great readers like Fakku's. If they could merge the features from the iPhone app to the web version, it'd be a lot better and a good start.

Hopefully we'll get an announcement at the CR Expo of the site overhaul, but I'm not holding my breath.

For now I just don't use there service for manga, having pages in the wrong order in every chapter is absurd and should never happen. This is a paid service but it doesn't feel like it.
