Only 4 episodes but looks like we're getting 4 more episodes for ReLife.

Trailer:

Coming in 2018. I would of preferred another season but hey, it's better than nothing.

Very interesting. 4 episodes does definitely seem a little short but, at the same time, the manga has been dreadfully treading water for so long now that they definitely wouldn't need another full season to at least catch up to where they are now.

Either way, we will be getting Hishiron in maid outfit with glasses so I'm all in.

I wonder how much they are going to cut from the web comic and if this is going to have an anime original ending. I guess the web comic is close to ending and this does come out next year so it might have they might have the same ending.

The anime ended around chapter ~108 and since then we've gotten like another 70 chapters or so. From the trailer it seems like the festival arc will be the center of attention. Although that arc is only like ~30 chapters (I might be wrong). I don't mind if there is a lot of cut content considering that the last two arcs have dragged on for a while. I look forward to the last 4 episodes.

Such a long wait for so few episodes. I'd rather have that 2nd season, but with the way the series had ended, guess I'll settle on the 4.

So does this mean the web comic is ending by that time or is going to be a anime only ending?

There is no hint for a climax yet; but after this last manga's arc I just don't know how many more stories the mangaka can come up with. I doubt it will still be running in a year; so it could very well be a canon ending.

I wonder where they're gonna go with it with just 4 episodes. Ending it after the festival would be kinda weird. I highly doubt it, but maybe each episode will be like 90 mins and it'll end up being a full season.

Yes, on discs only. Unless the OAV has its own ending, I can't see how 4 episodes can wrap things up in a nice way.

fuck yeah. one of my favorite shows. I would rather having a full season but I will take whatever they give me (guess its time to catch up to the manga since I stopped a little while ago).

Not exactly, the manga is going to be finishing very soon. Although there is enough for a second season, they seem to be ending it with a 4 episode OVA instead just showing the meaningful parts.

Bittersweet indeed.

tl&dr;

I have to conclude that the ReLIFE organization is, quite frankly, incredibly shady and downright evil.

I'm upset that it feels like they tried to use a 'heartwarming' ending to try to cover up some really nasty points they touched on and never resolved.

Longer explanation:

I was willing to grant suspension of disbelief for the premise of the show - rehabilitate young NEETs by having them enter HS. Interesting concept, a bit jarring even perhaps, but made for a deep and dark show.

I'm a bit mad though, and not because there weren't enough episodes.

A) The level of access ReLIFE has is akin to that of an omnipotent, all powerful, secret dictatorship. What other (good) explanation can there be for everything they do and the fact that they can employ so many people?

B) You can't really guarantee anybody a job after a year. Sure, premise is that you rehabilitate someone to the point that they more 'employable' and less depressed or something, but anybody's who's researched the NEET problem knows it has nothing to do with a bunch of super-depressed young kids. If there were jobs, they'd never have gotten depressed in the first place. So the whole thing seems a little sketchy from that point alone (what exactly besides less depression and questionable people skills can be learned from a single year of highschool which suddenly makes you a qualified candidate?)

C) Unless, of course you do what's done in the show, and they're employed by ... wait for it ... ReLIFE, thereby fueling the engines of this seemingly all powerful system.

This is even before you get into all the little nasty questions about whether or not its moral to manipulate and harm highschoolers for the benefit of ReLIFE laboratories (how? What exactly is their business model? Tears of young virgins?) and good-for-nothing 27 year-old shut-ins.

Worse, in the show, the operators or 'support's as they're called, well we see ample evidence that they are extremely brainwashed, incoherent individuals. Sure, An Onoya expresses some concern over the interests between Kaizaki and Hishiro, but a) we see an utterly devoted attitude towards strict adherence to protocol (presumably because they want to keep their jobs, but I don't buy this given their previous behavior in the show), and b) when Hishiro is converted back and An notices the marker and the scrawl, she literally breaks down in tears - she obviously knows what she is doing is wrong, but bemoans the fact that she is literally incapable of ignoring seeing it.

Sure, you may argue that this both necessary for continuing the plot in an artistic manner (so that the show can resolve as it does), and that further actions alluded to by Hishiro clear An's name/conscious (specifically the pushing Hishiro into ReLIFE as well), but if this is the case, and apparently mind wiping doesn't stick that well (I don't buy a 'love conquers all' message here either), why even bother to be so stringent in your rule following? Not to mention that the whole ruse doesn't make a lot of sense anyways - if both remember the details of their ReLIFEs, then all they need to do is cross reference their encounters to realize they've been erased from one another's memories.

Furthermore, if they are following rules just because they have to, well, this further points to a large, all-powerful shadow organization in the background threatening them and their existence as well.

But, back to ReLIFE being evil and brainwashing their employees. We never get to see the memory wipes, just the pill (why is that?), but assuming this is some sort of easily portable, highly versatile device (it must be to be able to selectively target the huge number of people in random locations that need a memory wipe after the fact, which further must be employed very quickly and thoroughly), then there is little reason to assume that whatever technology is being used to wipe the minds of people is probably being used to wipe the minds of the operators as well.

Ignoring for a second the giant absurdity of the entire situation, to me it seems very obvious then that ReLIFE is a shady, evil organization with some ulterior, unexplored motive. What better way to grow your evil organization than by preying on the weak, whitewashing them both mentally and physically, and then adding your newly formed zealot/converts to your money-hemorrhaging organization.

Don't get me wrong, I loved the original series, and when it was revealed that 001 was Hishiro, I thought 'Oh good, now they can have a happy ending'. But, that was also before they started touching on all the negative aspects of what a ReLIFE meant, and not just for 001 and 002 but for the real live HS students whose lives are basically being, if not ruined, harmed.

If you're going to try to touch on those subjects, don't just pretend that you didn't say anything and then say 'everythings fine! they got together, the end!'. Its like I'm in a real life horror film - one of those where everything is surreal and OK during the daytime, but come night, and the devils come out to play.

HUGE, huge miscalculation on their part I think, and one that I think turns this from being a classic to being just another half-assed romantic comedy.
