How did I not use a recent source? The source I used was even mroe recent than his, explaining how the WHO (along with most others) no longer classify transgenderism as a mental disorder, which is true. Being trans is not a disorder, gender and sex are different and gender exists on a fluid spectrum, these are just facts proven by science.

howmany genders are there?

I believe you should reply with more, and with a reply more pertinent with the post. In any case, the idea is that the self image in terms of ones sex or gender is on a spectrum. I do not believe there are rough categories yet. A good thing to keep in mind is that a great deal of people side with boy, or girl, regardless of their birth sex, maybe no strong preference or indication.

Recent, sure. Pertinent? Not at all. GID/Gender dysphoria/transexualism/Gender incongruence is still a mental disorder.

Oh well here I was about to listen to the scientific consensus but karatecowboy says otherwise so I guess not

I only had a cursory glance at your material. I apologize.

However, trying to define the category of transgenderism is mostly useless in my opinion, and I feel a great deal of opponent try to reason it to be this or that without any real talks of treatment and the end goal of said treatment, because the evidence overwhelmingly points to the other direction. People like Paul Hughs of John Hopkins have long since been disproven.

I mean I get where you're coming from but is that really a level of discussion of trans issues fit for a thread about mocking Bill Nye? All I did was point out how Nye was triggering transphobic people like karatecowboy by pointing out things like the University of Vienna's study proving the spectral nature of human gender using analysis of white matter microstructure, this has kind of gotten off topic.

Ah, I see. Although I suspect Karatecowboy to be biased when coming to his conclusions, I believe the disgust is still justifiable, within the same reasoning that the show is terrible in promoting scientific awareness for a circlejerk on Netflix.

I am paying respects to my childhood as we speak.

RIP Bill Nye.

I mean I liked what I saw of it (just the first episode mind you) but then again I was more of a Magic Schoolbus kind of a guy than a Bill Nye kind of kid so I definitely would have a different perspective on it than you. It's a shame whenever a reboot fails to live up to the original.

It's updated annually. Not 20 years outdated.

Here's the ICD-11 classification:
Gender Incongruence of Adolescence and Adulthood is characterized by a marked and persistent incongruence between an individual´s experienced gender and the assigned sex, which often leads to a desire to ‘transition’, in order to live and be accepted as a person of the experienced gender, through hormonal treatment, surgery or other health care services to make the individual´s body align, as much as desired and to the extent possible, with the experienced gender.

Now please STFU already with the quack-job, toxic, plainly evil BS

I like how none of what you quoted refutes a thing I said yet you still act all condecsebding.

Stay classy.

While I agree with Cowboy that you should have used a recent source, I agree with the notion that they are trying to classify gender dysphoria as a "Mental disorder" or "Mental Illness" without mentioning their proposed treatment. My conclusion is that they are avoiding the topic of treatment for semantics of its category as a mental illness or not. Or they are implying that it should be "treated" like any other mental ailment.

What we should be focusing on is the evidence behind sufficient treatments, if there are any.

Need to teach people to stop hating themselves, stop comparing themselves to everyone else, and stop trying to be what they are not.

A 5' tall person can't be a 7' tall person in a 5' tall body. They are 5' tall now stop worrying about what you can't change and focus on what you can. No matter how much you love cats and want to be one you cannot become even part cat even with all the plastic surgery in the world. If genetics say your male then your a male and all the plastic surgery in the world can't change that. Just accept what you are and focus on living instead of always thinking the grass is greener on the other side.

I focus on living instead of focusing on nonsense and I live a pretty good life because of it.

A spectrum in this case is not all that simple. If one could categorize genders into like...5, scientists would not need a spectrum. First off, there is a lack of accurate quantitative (Number-wise) measurements to a qualitative observation (Something like the sky is blue, or the sun is out) This is difficult when considering the problem with how far past the decimal place can one go, especially in a measurement involving people's characteristic. This is a problem I believe with psychology, and something supplement by neurology or something.

Essentially, it is the problem in Rick and Morty that one Youtuber covered, where titular Rick is stated to be 2 Ricks away from being Evil Rick. But wait a minute, in an infinite universe, would there not be an infinite number of Ricks between them? One could be 2.1 evil on the scale, another being 2.11, another being 2.112, and so on.

So essentially, the increments used to measure gender identity are rudimentary and observation based, I believe.
