Cool beans.

Seems like ACEN is not well represented here on the Crunchy Forums.

Have you gone before?

I'll be there! It is a really good time for those that have not gone.

They seem to have really gone all out this year with the entertainment. I remember seeing Scandal there a couple years ago too.

They are also having some open auditions for voice acting stuff there too.

Anyone cosplaying?

No, I haven't. The closest I got was going to Mitsuwa, a Japanese grocery/food court/bookstore a few miles from where ACEN is held, on ACEN weekend a couple of years ago. It was beyond packed.

It looks fun, I just don't know how long I'd want to stay, so don't know if it's worth the fairly steep admission fee. I took a look at the panels, while some looked fun, nothing seemed essential. Same with the guests-no one I need to see.

C2E2 does free passes for educators, and I've gone to that a few times, but ACEN only does press passes. I actually tried to get an anime website to hire me to take photos at ACEN this year, but they must have gone with someone else (even though I teach college photo classes or a living). Oh well!

Mitsuwa, REPRESENT!

Been there many, many times (fiancee is from Tokyo). Were you there recently? In the last couple months a new place in their food court opened up called "Sutadon" which makes wonderfully delicious garlic pork bowl dishes. Really good.

I know what you mean by the steep admission fee. I wanted to go some time ago JUST to see Scandal. But .... they're actually pretty bad when live, and $40 was pretty steep.

I love Mistuwa, and make it out there a few times a year. It's pretty much on the opposite end of Chicagoland from where I live, but if traffic isn't too bad (HA!) I can usually make it there in less than an hour. I was last there 2-3 weeks ago. Not been to Sutadon, but Hannosuke does easily the best tempura I've ever had. I'm amazed at how they can make tempura from a soft boiled egg! Mitsuwa is only a couple miles from one of my favorite sushi places, however, so I often end up there when I'm in that area.

There's another Japanese market, Tensuke, a mile south of Mitsuwa at Arlington Heights Road and Higgins Road. Much smaller than Mitsuwa, and no bookstore, but they have a food court style small restaurant which is pretty good. I'll sometimes go there if Mitsuwa is overly packed (like it will be this weekend, due to it being 10 min. from ACEN).

Wandered off topic a bit, but for those going to ACEN, Check out either of these places for great, cheap food
