I prefer train to flying or i drive i like more scenic drives. Flying is something i avoid last time i flew was a quick flight to Hawaii.

American is going to have to realize that if they continue to make things difficult for passenger's and more fights occur that at some point its going to cost the company to much money from canceled flights rebooking and lawsuits especially if they loose multiple multi million dollar lawsuits. They should be following the cost vs risk formula why companies don't I have no idea.

they actually know what they're doing, which is why they offer such shoddy service.

lawsuit -> extremely expensive, only a small portion of travelers can even afford making a lawsuit, which would drag for years and at least few thousand dollars worth of attorney costs. worth noting that these companies can afford much better lawyers than your average joe.

canceled flights -> people stops using their service...until they make a promotional offering (cheaper flights)

Ugh, and I am pretty much stuck flying American due to the destination I frequently go to. Their competitors charge almost double on that route. Well it might be cheaper to take some sleep medications and suffer than pay for better seats.

The solution is to get your own airplane and stop enabling the airlines.

There is a 10 year wait list to get a new airplane the backlog is so long that its not worth it because in that time frame the technology could be completely different by the time its finished and it could be obsolete

apparently it costs at least $5400 / hour to hire a private jet, and they can go for well over $10,000 per hour in flight. this means that a typical 12-hour flight would set you back at least $64k - 65k on a single trip, and twice as much for a round trip - using the cheapest jet. a jet that costs 10k / hour would set you back $240k on a 12- hour, round-trip. $240,000 dollars just to make a round-trip.

to actually buy one of those, you'd need to shell out at least $4 million for the "poor people's" jet, while more expensive jets can go for over $50 million. this of course, on top of the cost of hiring a professional pilot, fuel costs, etc, etc. there's also maintenance costs, which will not be cheap, either.

so it will be a lot less if you fly the plane yourself then ?

there are small planes at the local airport around here (2-4 people)

how much will it cost to buy one of these and the license to fly them ? i think this will do for trips across state lines ?

That plane would probably cost around $300,000 new. You can buy an ancient Piper Cub for around $45,000 it seems.

Planes are expensive because they stay up until they fall apart, or a little after. It pretty much comes down to how much you plan to fly.
