In my younger years I played a lot of RPG's from this list. Glad to see these two RPG's were on top. Chrono Trigger was an amazing RPG.

02 - Final Fantasy VI
01 - Chrono Trigger

You dare to rate Tales of Vesperia below Chrono Trigger..

All is beneath Chrono Trigger, even the Tales of series. I think Tales of Symphonia may have had a chance of ranking higher ... but, not as high as Chrono Trigger. CT Master Race RPG.

I'd expect some SMT games.

Please Chrono Trigger is a hot mess of time travelling cliches and predictable storytelling....and gameplay ripped straight outta Final Fantasy. Tales of Vesperia on the other hand is wonderfully done with an engaging storyline and gameplay that blows Chrono Trigger out of the water in the mere first 10 hours of play.

Why are Pokemon Sun and Moon so high on this list when they came out less than a year ago? =/
I mean, I liked them, but I don't think they should be THAT high on the list.

Well, no. Chrono Trigger stuck to time travel clichés because that's what it was intended to be - a time-travel RPG. Gameplay was unique at the time - as it wasn't necessarily turn-based ("Active Wait System version 2.0" was first implemented in Chrono Trigger and later used in different FF games - the prior FF games used the "Active Time Battle" battle system, just a history in RPGs).

As for Vesperia - it's just the standard "Tales of" plot without any originality in either plot or battle system. The plot/storyline was par for the course when it comes to "Tales of" games and the battle system was just a graphical enhancement of their LMBS (Linear Motion Battle System) without much else. It sounds like Vesperia was your first "Tales of" game - which I can understand the sentimental value of that but it's definitely not as good as Chrono Trigger. If you're going to criticize CT for having "battle systems out of Final Fantasy" - keep in mind that Vesperia's battle system had absolutely zero improvements of the system itself, just graphical improvements as the game was "next gen" at the time.

Now Chrono Cross... yes, I'd agree that any "Tales of" game is better than Chrono Cross.

Interesting lists, and both are fairly solid for the most part. I could nitpick here and there but I can't call them out as being totally "wrong."

Well, with the exception of Game Informer putting Skyrim at #1. I mean, I played it and did enjoy it but come on, that's basically a deliberate troll right there. It had a cool world but that's it and even pretty much all of the other Elder Scrolls games were better RPGs (and games in general)

It's interesting to see them both pull in so many RPG variants like MMOs and action games with heavy RPG elements, and it was also a bit of a surprise to see so both lists be so JRPG heavy. Most gaming media seems to largely be anti-JRPG.

I'd personally put FFVI above CT but I've put hundreds and hundreds of hours into both so it's nearly a toss up.

To be fair a lot of JRPGS are..well less then stellar. They tend to be grindfests with story lines so convoluted that you wonder how anyone thought them up. I use Agarest Zero and Resonance of Fate as prime examples of this, I'd even toss in the Star Ocean series in for good measure.

I may be biased but my personal top RPG list would start with 1) Persona 5 2) Persona 4 and 3) Persona 3. Yeah, I'm a huge fan.

So you...just skipping over Persona 4..the highlight of the series. and easily the thing really carrying the series as a whole. ..and rating Persona 5 which is easily the weakest entry in the series over it. ..you sure ya didn't hit ya head or anything?

If anything p4 is the weakest out of them all, story was definitely the weakest and all the spin offs definitely don't help out it out. Saving grace of the game was the characters

Please Persona 4 had better gameplay then Persona 5, and a better story then Persona 3, 2, and 1. And frankly Persona 5 came across as slightly homophobic . And Persona 4's story wins over the others for revolving around sexual themes that are somewhat taboo in it's homeland of Japan and even to a slight extent here in North America.

Combined with a well written and well voice acted cast of characters Persona 4 is tops. And on that note the English Voice actors for Persona 5 were terrible and forcing me to download the Japanese Voice actors ( at least it was free to be fair) so I could actually play without cringing was a slap in the face.
