Personally, I see Persona 4 and 5 pretty much on par with one another. Although, Persona 5's gameplay is superior by a small margin (just a slight bump, as they knew what to focus on). Storyline is pretty much similar - P5 focused on the political and social discord that's happening all over the world right now (hot topic) and P4 focused on taboo social topics in a similar fashion. P3 "revived" the Persona series in the West, as P1/2 were too dark for most jRPG players here (I loved both).

The issue with Persona 4 was that it got oversaturated for some players. Anime series, films, dancing/rhythm games, fighting game, Persona Q, mangas, light novels.... too much of a good thing is still too much for some people.

I may be biased but my personal top RPG list would start with 1) Persona 2) Persona 5 and 3) Persona 3. Yeah, I'm a huge fan.

So you...just skipping over Persona 4..the highlight of the series. and easily the thing really carrying the series as a whole. ..and rating Persona 5 which is easily the weakest entry in the series over it. ..you sure ya didn't hit ya head or anything?

I did make a typing mistake on my first post, but yeah, 5 is my personal favorite Persona game followed by 3 and 4.

As for Persona 5 being "easily the weakest entry in the series", I have to wholeheartedly disagree with you there. To me, it's a more perfect fusion of what made Persona 2, 3, and 4 great thanks to the return of demon negotiations, nuclear/psychic elements, and most importantly, GUNS. 5 also has by quite a large margin the most visually impressive and engaging dungeons in the franchise's history and the sheer presentation and style of the game alone is quite impressive. Additionally, the UI is much more refined and user friendly over previous iterations and the soundtrack is legit as we've all come to expect out of a Persona game. Story wise, Persona 5 is as solid as any Persona game I've played, though the stories from Persona 2 and 3 still resonate with me more to this day and the dubbed VA's were actually pretty good aside from a few unimportant background characters. All in all, Persona 5 is the pinnacle of the franchise and a shining example of just how much these games have developed over the years.

The reasons I can't rate Persona 4 higher than P5 is mostly due to weaker dungeon design and a story that in my opinion, was a little too "bright" throughout much of the game. I understand that there were always hints of darkness in the game and especially so in the events leading up to Nanako's dungeon and after, but for the most part it was a pretty lighthearted game than any other Persona to date. That said, it is still my second favorite game thanks to the strength of the social links, the character/interactions/development, and the writing.

But yeah, that is obviously my opinion, so if you don't like it, that's your problem. I don't understand why you felt the need to take some sort of "shot" at me for expressing my beliefs on the matter.

If anything p4 is the weakest out of them all, story was definitely the weakest and all the spin offs definitely don't help out it out. Saving grace of the game was the characters

Combined with a well written and well voice acted cast of characters Persona 4 is tops. And on that note the English Voice actors for Persona 5 were terrible and forcing me to download the Japanese Voice actors ( at least it was free to be fair) so I could actually play without cringing was a slap in the face.

Also, if the text I bolded was that heavy of a deciding factor as to why you think Persona 5 is the "weakest entry" in the entire franchise, then honestly, that's quite petty to me. Additionally, I never really perceived the game as homophobic in the first place, but that's just me and to say Persona 4's story "wins" because of how it addresses sexual themes is honestly a bit too selective for me to proclaim the P4 story as superior as I prefer to engage in more general rhetoric when discussing the quality of a game's story.

I found the two guys who show up in Shinjuku to be very offensive but they're hardly major players and can be avoided outside of the one encounter with Ryuji. I guess you could also say the game could have used a prominent homosexual character or relationship, maybe even a romance option for Joker, but I don't know if I would personally say the absence of such would be homophobic.

That's the only thing I could think of that would offend anyone, but those characters in Shinjuku were clearly just a stereotype used solely for the purposes of comic relief, and as such, I never really took it too seriously. As for homosexual characters in game, I do think the game sort of implies that Yusuke swings that way, but it's not something directly addressed and it doesn't really matter anyways.
