Suppose you were reading the General Discussion forum on Crunchyroll. You come across a topic mentioning Donald Trump, Racism, Feminism, Hillary Clinton, or something with an enormous wall of text. Against your better judgement, you respond. One day later, you find the OP has responded to you and has decided that you're a liar, SJW, racist, missing the point, or misinformed. Do you reply? Is it worth it? How big will the quote pyramid get?

Damn, this really made me think of an impossible scenario that should never occur in general discussion.

Well, there's a quote I once heard. It goes something like, "Those who argue with radicals become radicalized." It's because strange things happen when we argue with someone. To prove another person wrong, we'll become something we weren't when the argument started.

I agree with the line of French political thought, which includes Albert Camus and Michel de Montaigne, that holds that the foremost political virtue is moderation. I know not everyone agrees with that.

So in the hypothetical situation described, I will try to be reasonable, engage the person in conversation casually, state my points, and move on if nothing productive comes of the conversation or if it sounds like it will turn into a serious time sink. That's the plan in theory anyway.

I feel as if that thread about catgirls is better worth my time, and I don't even like catgirls.

Reply quickly, feel inadequate when my response is dismissed, and masturbate my feeling of inferiority away.

LOL… That is why I typically try to avoid those type of threads. Whatever you say, someone is going to debate you if they feel differently. Then people with strongly opposing views argue and usually no resolution is established.

Just seems like a waste of time.

It's your time, use it how you want. Not really much value getting into heavy exchanges
on an anime websites forums imo. Just say your piece and move on. No winners here,
only people with time on their hands.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

This is why I wish there was an option to hide the forums altogether. I come here for anime not political arguments. So I often see forum titles that put me in a bad mood just from seeing the name alone.

I try so hard not to get involved in threads like those. Each time I do it's followed by immediate regret.
