I honestly can't tell if anyone actually WANTS equality anymore. Just seems to me that we become more divided day by day.

While I don't think Harvard really should do anything about this as they have nothing to do with it (misleading thread title), I do think that it's ridiculous and blatantly racist.

Knowing this, Black members of the class of 2017 decided to form an individual ceremony.

In other words, Harvard (the institution) is not holding a blacks-only graduation ceremony. Some black members of its 2017 graduating class have, on their own initiative, decided to do so. In fact, having dug deeper into the matter Harvard isn't even funding the ceremony. The students had to raise the money on their own.

It's not my business if a bunch of black students decide to hold what effectively amounts to a private graduation party on their own dime, with their own planning, on their own time even if I don't see the point.

Oh look someone who had a "whites only" party and it became national news accusing the frat of racism: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/11971221/Yale-University-fraternity-sets-white-girls-only-party-admission-policy.html

Well I'm sure there will be outrage from the media over this black only ceremony, there won't.

nothing but cheap click bait

There have been declarations of this being racist, especially in this thread.

It would be, because it is. WHY did harvard even allow this? Even if they had good intentions they should not have been allowed to do this, not at such a divisive time in this country, or ever!

I think it is worthy of criticism, but what essentially amounts to private gatherings should be legally treated under the freedom of associations if you ask me. Invite who you want to invite, regardless of public perception, but be aware that a private institution like Ivy Leagues may have the right to deal with you of their own accord should one do unsavory things.

It is pretty much just business dealings in that perspective, despite the unjust nature of mob perception, I think Harvard does have that right.

However, it seems to me that a gathering to honor black graduates are not code words for explicitly discriminating against non blacks from participating, which would be the REAL issue here. Highlighting a difference in racial circumstances is not the same as discriminating because of them.

Really I just want everyone to have the same set of standards. Either you can pick and choose whoever you want or all must be included. I'm tired of it being a one way street on equality. Black only scholarships (APPROVED). Whites only scholarship (DENIED NAZI). White only party (Racism, NAZI, hates minorities). Black only party (Community and fellowship).

It's quite annoying having to live by a different set of standards because of skin color.

Free Speech, Freedom of peaceful assembly, Freedom of etc. Universities cannot interfere with peoples' first amendment rights (like they was doing when they interfered with the Freedom of speech, of assembly, of etc. of conservatives the last couple of months).

What does this tell me? It tells me that racial segregation against non-White races is horrible and wrong, and should be stopped!! But segregation against White races is A.O.K.!!!

Why won't anyone, except conservatives and libertarians, acknowledge the double standards and hypocrisy in full display here?

I seriously hate that thing!!!! I've started to copy my long replies and paste them onto a document, in case it happens to me. If it does, then I paste it in a new reply window....

Honestly lots black people in the US feel way too entitled nowadays. Some are even more privileged than the white people they call privileged. Also I say LOTS not all, what I'm saying already is pretty bad but not trying to say ALL black people.
