This cloudflare DDos browser checker is getting out of control. Half of my posts are being ate up by this thing checking my browser nonstop. I know others have been having the same issue. Its rendering crunchyroll unusable.

If its been annoying you too post your frustration in here so we can get crunchyroll to finally do something about it!

Helps prevent DDoS attacks. You will notice it loading occasionally while on several anime streaming sites, including this one.

I'd expect to do that for free anime not for an anime site where I PAY MONEY FOR GOOD SERVICE.

I am not of the network arcana cognoscenti like ninjitsuko is, so I can only offer my one observation: I too thought I lost a few posts I made, when I got an "Error in form - no name given!" message. But I pressed back twice, and everything I typed was still there in the comment box. And when I tried posting it again, it went through. Sometimes the stupid answer is right.

Exactly. I know I'm more CR friendly than some people here but even I'll call them out for their, frankly, terrible communication in regards to site issues. They have no problem tweeting about new episode uploads and "news" but they can't even be bothered to put up a simple post when there is some sort of problem with the site until they're already getting publicly raked over the coals for it.

Yeah, it's among the many things they need to fix.

Hmmm, only time I ever had it actually interrupt anything was when I had a server hijack situation.

I've moved this over to the Suggestions/Feedback forum.

It's been annoying me too. I don't really mind when I have to keep trying in order to read the forums, but boy do I hate hitting "send" on a PM and getting that DDoS screen and apparently no way to get back to my PM. Well, I mean it does seem to get me back to the PM reply -- but with everything I had written gone.

No, you pay money to access Crunchyroll's updated catalog before others (free members) do. Utilizing Cloudflare is part of this "good service" that you're demanding.

Chances are - you (and those who are having issues) are triggering a 403 error via the browser integrity check. Make sure you're running the latest version of your browser, as well as ensuring that if you're browsing the site on a mobile device to use your browser's feature to "view desktop site" (instead of using mobile browser headers which are often used to mimic "natural behavior" when actually it's a DDoS). Also, make sure that you're not holding onto too much browser cache as this can often cause issues (403 errors) while attempting to proceed through Cloudflare's Browser Integrity check.

https://www.cloudflare.com/

Cloudflare speeds up and protects millions of websites, APIs, SaaS services, and other properties connected to the Internet. Our Anycast technology enables our benefits to scale with every server we add to our growing footprint of data centers.

As far as I understand it's supposed to be a middleman to check and make sure a server isn't getting hammered by repeated requests from the same source(s). Doesn't seem to be reliably keeping the site from hangups, though. I'm trying to stay in the habit of copying a post before hitting reply to avoid getting it eaten.

Accessing via a VPN will actually only make it worse.

I'm sure everything you say is right.
That said, a lot of websites use Cloudflare these days and I can't see the same kind of crying on any of those. CR's website is just outdated and as they just attached Cloudflare on it, seems to be causing more problems for people than it needs to. The problem isn't Cloudflare, it's the actual website itself.
Maybe it's just me who hasn't seen it on other websites though, who knows.

I'm genuinely curious whether it's supposed to lead into this (I have never seen this on any other genuine website):

I'm sure there are better ways to handle these "integrity checks"

I believe Crunchyroll's servers can not keep up and that is why they're using CloudFlare. CloudFlare is a content delivery network and the DDoS protection is only one of its many features.

What CloudFlare does, is deliver Crunchyroll's content from one of its many, many servers around the world without us needing to ever reach the origin server (where Crunchyroll's files and database are actually stored). This helps reduce resource usage for Crunchyroll and prevent the origin server going down due to a high load.

Still, it seems like this is not enough and when Crunchyroll's origin server is reaching a high load, DDoS protection is activated, putting us in a queue in order to give the origin server time to stabilize. This is not how DDoS protection should be used but it gets the job done, for now.

Crunchyroll has been growing in popularity, this brings more traffic to their server/s to handle which is good since I want them to succeed, but is also worsening the current situation.

I certainly hope Crunchyroll's developers are looking into improving the website's performance, I became a premium member because I wanted to support what they do, but sometimes just trying to watch the latest Berserk episode becomes incredibly frustrating due to these issues.

PS: This is only my guess, but I work at a hosting company and we have CloudFlare as a partner so I do have some knowledge on the subject.

I had no issue over the weekend (I was using my phone so that may be why) but now that I'm on a PC I'm seeing the issue. I was barely able to watch the new episode of boruto.

Cloudflare came up at least twice today and the website is hardly working for me over the last few minutes (one of the error pages says code 520).

Still can't access their catalog because their servers shit out with high loads.

I post a lot from mobile and change IP addresses frequently. Its because my session keeps changing the associated IP address.

Speak of the devil.. just had this happen while trying to reply here. Heh

Anyway, yeah, site is super slow for me as well. It feels like they're being hit by something though I'm not sure why that would happen mid day on a Wednesday. Of course, they could also actually be doing work on the system and just didn't feel it was worth telling their paying customers about it.

Log out and back in, then go to the forums to post. The protection triggers on form submission, but only once per session. So if you trigger the protection on the log out/in, it won't trigger on forum posts.
