Yoppo.

...as to the third album cover, I'm pretty sure that Loki was chained directly to a rock on his back, so that the venom of the asp fell into his face. There was no hugging by the chick whose name I have forgotten at the moment.

Yes. Not sure who the pigman screaming at the lake is, just not that familiar with Asian mythology all told, but Ra's album cover really kind of misses for me.

Setting aside the musculature, which is all wrong, and the head which is too small, and the inexplicable obelisks, it doesn't really even match up to any of the Ra events.

Last one is based on the binding of Loki myth: http://norse-mythology.org/tales/loki-bound/.

In a way, the album cover is slightly less disturbing, graphically, than the actual story.

First album cover is the Pig from Journey to the West.

The "pigman" is Zhu Bajie/Zhu Wuneng. He is one of the main characters of a classic chinese text (Journey to West). And he is probably not screaming, just laughing, as he is the most optimistic and merry of the characters, as well as one of the most tolerant and kind, which is part of his contradictions as he is also an ex-Admiral of Heaven punished with exile on Earth for trying to rape the Moon Goddess after a night of heavy drinking. On Earth, he was changed to a really ugly man who resembled a wild boar for being a lazy glutton womanizer would-be rapist.

Maybe I got inured about the disturbing aspect of myths and legends but Loki cover is not disturbing at all and so many elements on it are off that I cannot relate to the myth of Loki bound to a rock under Skadi's serpent with his wife trying to keep Loki's face clean of the serpent venom by holding a bowl under its fangs.

But Loki is not really evil, just the Trickster on norse mythology. Yeah, OK, he will break the bonds and have Balder killed in order to start the Ragnarok, but Odin is really the one at a fault here. He (Odin) is the one who angered Loki by chaining his son Fenrir, throwing Jörmungandr on the ocean and banishing Hela to Hell (kinda). What did Odin expected the father of these three would do?
