I'd definitely go for around $150 max. That's also my max when collecting rare retro games.

$5.00.

If you think you can't find a rare DVD for that price, think again: A lot of places that deal in used DVDs don't know what they have. Especially anime; many assume (because its such a niche market that it doesn't often sell) that its basically worthless, and will price it as such.

And if you're patient, you can often find deals. But the key is patience, as it can take a long time before the DVDs you're looking for show up.

If you have one in your town, I heartily recommend keeping an eye on your local Half Price Books. They tend to get lots of DVDs of all kinds in stock, and if they have too many most stores tend to put them on their Clearance racks just to make room. Anime is one of the categories they tend to go to first in order to clear space, and you'd be surprised what shows up there at dirt cheap prices. Escaflowne at $2.00 a disc; the entire Gantz series box set for $5.00. And not too long ago, I got all of the first series of Berserk... for $1.00 a disc. Add to this the fact that they are always running sales (HPB will be having a 20% off sale Memorial Day weekend), and there are some potentially very good deals out there.

If you don't have an HPB in your area, try Disc Replay. But the key is patience. Check in that store often, because you never know when they'll put something you want out, and always be prepared to buy it immediately before someone else notices it.

Depends on the anime and if it has been changed in any way, shape or form. Have no use for censored versions which I consider garbage! So it depends.

Not sure how much I would be willing to spend. Probably not a huge amount. I'm not a collector, I buy things mainly because I want to watch them. At C2E2 (Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo) this year I saw a copy of the Paranoia Agent dvd set for $250. I bought mine for about $35 when it was still in print. It did make me wonder what dvd's I would spend that much on, and I couldn't think of anything.

$360 is about what a 12-episode series costs on Japanese blurays

One of my favorite series is unlikely to get a US release, since it's not very popular, so I'm buying the Japanese releases.

$320 USD for Garden of Sinners when it was released a few years ago. Have yet to sit down and watch it.

Bought the Japanese version of Neon Genesis Evangelion in Blu-Ray when it was released last year or year previous (no English subtitles) but can't recall cost. Only way to guarantee Funi producing it here someday, lol......

Accel World: bought the Japanese version (has subs) averaging $30/ episode via Amazon.co.jp when first released bc I didn't think anyone in US would produce it. Bought the US-release version later for lot less cost.

Currently have PO open at Amazon.co.jp for Your Name aka Kimi no Na wa BD estimated eta July 26, 2017

the most I've ever paid was 59.00 when NIS had Natume's Book of Friends. But it's worth it though because I will eternally love that series.

I'll probably break my Aniplex boycott to get Touken Ranbu though.

I keep trying to convince myself to buy the Yamato 2099 remake Blu-ray box set. By the time I convince myself it's worth the price it probably won't be available anymore. V.V So that should give an idea on my ceiling.

About 80€ maybe? Depends on the series itself. The rarest one i think is Trigun complete series which i had to pay about 60€ or so.
