Zero Mahou isn't really a "hidden show" in my books.

The King's Avatar would definitely fit that category, though. Not common to find discussion about this show because its not Japanese, but the show is super entertaining nonetheless. Totally worth a try if you haven't seen it already. Can legally watch it on YouTube as well.

King's Avatar? Holy-Crap, that totally missed my radar and I don't even remember seeing it on the Anicharts! Send me links to where on Youtube I can watch it!

Except for eromanga sensei I'll have to call all except two shows that I'm watching a hidden gem. Because of attack on titan I believed that pretty much every show was just going to be C rated crap since it would be foolish to challenge a show like AOT. I was wrong and found many shows that I look forward to every week and most are looking like they will be making my buy list.

Last season had some really great hidden gems in Kemono Friends, ACCA, and Super Lovers as these are all shows that are worth watching. As for this season, they are much tougher to find, and some of these gems wouldn't have been hidden if it weren't for being double paywalled by Amazon. For this season, Royal Tutor would by my biggest hidden gem. Sure, it's not going to appeal to everybody, but it's a nicely done slice of life with interesting characters and a lighthearted story that makes it appealing.

AoT is like spoon feeding sugar water to ant drones.

Not that I dislike AoT. Quite the contrary. But, its nothing amazing.

But I'm with you. I ended up watching a lot more than i expected and I still have 4 shows left to even start that are in my radar.

Grimore of Zero is my hidden gem. I do not hear much talk on it and to me its an amazing show. Id also say "What would you do at the end of the world? Are you busy? Will you save us?" Loving that as well and not seeing much on it personally.

Hidden gems end up being really any show you enjoy that doesnt get talked about much. Really, every season only has a few shows that are not 'hidden gems' in that they are talked about everywhere. This season Attack on Titan and my Hero Acidamia are the ones everyone knows and talks about. Most other shows can be hidden gems depending on the person.

Ive seen Kemono friends use as an example from last season. That is not a hidden gem lol. I think it was literally the most talked about show last season. I personally did not like it, but it seems a majority chunk of the anime community did.

Never heard of this Kings Avatar at all. Have to take a look at it.

Starmyu.

.... it's stupid half the time (note: in my opinion, everything else is stupid more than half the time, which is why I don't watch other shows), but when it's good, it's good. The characters are well written - at least the main pairing - and it just has a lot of heart in ways that a lot of other, more popular shows, don't.

Kado answers that question.
So now other are saying Grimoire, not so sure, I've heard mixed things about it.

Struggled for a while to decide exactly how I would interpret "hidden gem" in this case, since I don't really feel there are any Time Travel Girls or Kagewanis this season. I would've said Kado, up until the point I dropped it at episode 5.

As a result, I just decided to look at which shows I'm still watching that have the lowest viewership numbers on MAL. I've managed to reduce my watch list from 25 shows to 10, so I'm only watching ones I actually enjoy.

At 9% of the popularity of the most watched show on MAL (AoT) we have Tsugumomo. The blend of action and comedy is still working, for me at least.

Even less watched is Atom: The Beginning. Only 4% the viewership of the most popular Spring show. I've never watched any Astro Boy, but I'm really quite enjoying this one for some reason.

If this thread was instead titled "Most Underrated of Spring", then that would be a different question. Once again Tsugumomo, along with Tsuki ga Kirei and Re:Creators. Also worth mentioning is Sakura Quest and, to some extent, Atom.

IMHO, I think my three hidden gems are:

1. Akashic Records of A Magical Bastard Instructor
2. Tsugumomo
3. Tsuki Ga Kirei

Whilst Akashic Records was something I'm kind of into already (similar to mahouka koukou no rettousei) and the OP is just (not shitting on the ending song either, its pretty good too) . I mostly caught onto Tsugumomo because of the similarities in battle manga, I guess. And not really much to say about Tsuki Ga Kirei, just love the realism element it puts into the romance between the two main characters.

However. that doesn't mean the other animes are lacking in any way. I felt this season was really solid, I'm loving Virgin Soul, Love Tyrant, Silver Guardian and Busou Shoujo Machiavellism, to name a few.

Really haven't watched anything this season. Persona 5 has kept me occupied for almost three months now and I can't watch Re:Creators because it's on Amazon.
