Forgive my ignorance bu can someone please enlighten me on what a "Weeb" is? I see this word used a lot on forums but I have never really heard what it meant. I tried looking it up and got a lot of different definitions. The most common being those obsessed with Japanese.

If that is the case at what point would you consider someone a weeb? For myself I have since I was little(before I even knew what anime or manga was. Had an admiration for Japan/China. I was impressed by stories of unwavering loyalty and an almost perfectionist society. Most of the meals my family eats you could say are "Asian" and the most common utensil we use is stainless steel chopsticks. The diet is mostly because we have found other nationality foods a bit too salty or fatty. I don't buy figurines or other swag. I don't know tons of stuff about Japan in particular. Would I classify as a weeb?

Ironically, (or maybe not) it's really not what a word actually means... It's how someone uses it. Their intentions and the tone of their voice/context are what matter. Different people see it different ways, just like not everyone has the same morals and ethics. Language, especially slang, goes with the flow and changes over time, the same word can be mean-spirited or playful. Generally, though, it is meant to be derogatory, expressing scorn for a person of non-Asian descent who enthusiastically prefers Japanese everything above all else. Just because you like Anime and/or Asian culture doesn't make you one, but to someone whose tastes run completely counter to that, and has the need to feel superior, they will call you that. It says more about the person using it than the person it is being used against.

Well, I found this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1YYYwhSILL4

Weebs/Weeaboo are those obsessed with Japan and not the kind that are actually interested in learning more about the country. it's more obsessed and wanting to be Japanese when they're not, thinking Japan is the best place on Earth and would denounce their own country/nationality. They'd act and speak like Japanese but mostly incorrectly since they learned their knowledge of the country in shows and such. I've heard of stories wherein these people would introduce themselves as Japanese even when they're not and pepper their sentences with 'kawaii' or 'sugoi' or other simple Japanese terms to sound well, Japanese.

Well, based on what you said, I don't think you're a weeb unless you go farther like these people. I haven't met an actual weeb though.

Oh and someone made this. Mostly for fun but I think you'd get the idea if you take it.

According to a large portion of the internet, anyone who doesn't hate anime and/or Japan is a weeb.

Frankly, it's just a stupid insult that has no real meaning now if it ever really had one to begin with.
